Henoch-Schonlein purpura/IgA Vasculitis (4 y/o child)
Our 4 y/o daughter was recently diagnosed with HSP/IgA Vasculitis. She's presenting with the purpura, and has an ear infection and is dehydrated to boot. They think it stemmed from a strep infection. She also nearly knocked out her tooth a few weeks ago from a trip near a metal slide, so there's a lot of repair happening in her body right now. She's a healthy, active kid otherwise (that refuses to drink fluids). Bloodwork is coming back against the other scary stuff.
Also, this kid is stoic (we only tested for strep bc she threw up and there was a strep outbreak, she reported no throat pain, currently she reports no ear pain, only drinks fluids if we prompt her, no major change in energy despite all of this).
So...
- Am I being negligent but not just keeping her home and prompting her to drink fluids every 5 minutes? She's only in school for 3 more weeks, for only 3 days a week, 1/2 time.
- Has anyone's kid has HSP and had it just....go away?
- We're planning to go to Europe for 2 weeks in July and have establishing care, but haven't taken her out of the country before...will this tax her immune system too much?
It's been an awful flu/cold/strep season for our family and I'm just wanting her to actually get better physically without totally changing things for her. I'm just a little scared, I guess.
