GS Main for 800hrs - now looking to restart game with a new weapon!

Hi there all

GS Main here, got Rise at launch on Switch - played it religiously and beat all content (up to AR 300, if memory services) and played GS from day 1 .... through to 800+ hours.

I adore the versatility of this weapon in rise, and all the different playstyles.... particularly fond of Rage Slash and Surge Slash Combo. By endgame I was even running some elemental sets, like a madman.

Nothing has really scratched the itch since. World wasn't really my jam, and the Wilds performance on Steamdeck is pretty dire.

So I got Rise/Break on a great Steamdeck sale and it looks/plays beautifully. Really quite something!

I am starting from scratch, idea to dig in for 20/30 mins a day and grind through the entire story. I'm not using defender gear and wanting to try a brand new weapon.

I've kind of narrowed it down to 2 - ChargeBlade and SwitchAxe.... but can't really decide on which. I want something that is quite versatile, but also relatively accessible for someone who has only ever mained one weapon.

CB and SA mains... what would be a good guide to follow for basics? And which might be the best transitionary weapon coming from GS?

I'm not the best player, but happy to put the time in learning. My monster memory is still quite good, even having put the game down a couple of years back

thanks!

Monster Hunter Rise/Sunbreak in 2026 - 60fps Settings (& Mod Recommendations)

Hi All

MHR/Sunbreak was my absolute comfort game on Switch1, and kept me sane through the pandemic...

Nothing else has quite scratched the itch since, and despite 800+ hrs on Switch I decided to buy Rise/Sunbreak for a pittance in the Fanatical sale yesterday.

Out-the-box it seems to run pretty well, but I'd like some pointers from anyone still playing in 2026.

I'd like to understand best settings for a locked-60fps experience, and also an advised TDP that might mitigate some of the fan noise... (whilst not inhibiting the locked 60fps that I want to achieve)

Settings are my primary ask here, but I'm also interested in any simple mods that might enhance the experience. I think I saw someone playing with an updated HUD that showed monster health?

(nb when it comes to mods, I'm not massively technical... so something easy to install, if anything at all. Also, not interested at all in cheats/shortcuts, I want to start from scratch and re-learn the game properly. Just after QoL recommends)

I checked ProtonDB but there isn't much detail from recent months, hence asking here.

Thanking all in advance, BR/

Recommendation request: time-sink game with great customisation / builds with solo and online co-op (to kill 2-3 months)

Hi All

STEAMDECK Request - Reaching out to this great community for a recommendation please.

Currently in a bit of a gaming rut, and wanting an 'everyday game' to keep me busy for next 2-3 months whilst travelling with work.

I'm ideally looking for something with a similar gameplay loop to Monster Hunter, something where I can work constantly/daily on updating my build and skills.... where I can play solo/offline for majority of time but also jump in to a co-op session with randoms during hard battles!

I've put 800hrs into MH Rise, and 500 in to World. Wilds had me interested, but the steamdeck performance is still just a little rough for my liking.

I really enjoyed the level of character customisation in these games, and the sheer diversity of builds/armor/cosmetics that make your character truly feel unique. There is also a good level of challenge, especially in the DLCs.

Some notes:

- Online only is OK, but there will be periods of travel where internet is reduced/lacking, so ideally want a game I can play offline solo at times (but with potential to play MP when I have internet connection)

-"Preferred Genres", Really enjoy MH style games, have also played WildHearts.

- Would like something that is still 'active' today, where matchmaking wouldn't be an issue

- Will be playing exclusively on handheld. 30 fps is not a big issue for me, providing it is essentially a locked 30fps. Also I'd prefer not to get in to the territory of LS/FG if this can be avoided.

- I'm not anti MMO, although I'd say that the complexities of the MH games are perhaps the ceiling of how far my intelligence can be stretched in terms of managing complicated and numerous mechanics!

- I plan to play FF14 when it launches on Switch2 in August, so currently ruling that out.

- Diablo 4 and Granblue Fantasy Relink both have me interested... but really not sure if they are what I am looking for here.

"Previously Enjoyed Games" - My taste in games are quite varied, and titles I've enjoyed recently include D:OS2, Khazan, MH Rise/Wilds, Resi9, Nine Sols, Hades 2, Wildhearts, Lies of P, Pokopia. I usually enjoy a mix of challenge and build diversity.

"Budget", no limit

Thanks everyone, I'm really stuck as to where to go here.... and this sub is usually a great spot for recommendations.

Best of 2026…? (So Far)

I think it’s fair to say that 2025 was an embarrassment of riches for this genre, and so many top-tier games dropped!

My personal faves were Foolish Mortals, The Drifter, Seance of Blake Manor, Kathy Rain 2

From a personal perspective, I much prefer adventure games that are more ‘puzzle’ than ‘narrative’ (I’d much rather play a Thimbleweed Park instead of an Unavowed)

So what are people’s recommendations from 2026 now we are 1/3 through? Can anyone point me to some great picks?

Games I’ve loved - Thimbleweed / Lucy Dreaming / Unusual Findings / Will of Arthur Flabbington / Darkestville Castle / Hobs Barrow / Foolish Mortals / Monkey Islands / The Drifter / Lorelei & the Laser Eyes / Seance of Blake Manor / Deponias

For some reason I don’t think I’ve yet to play any new 2026 releases
