Hammered Supraphonic
Just picked this up. I have the regular 5" deep Supraphonic (which I love), and having fun seeing what this one can do.
I in no way have been have been playing the opening bars to When The Levee Breaks repeatedly*
*Er, yes I have!
Supraphonic - clean up
Stiff tension rods, rusty hoops, shell pitting, filthy inside and out.
Removed the hoops. Used WD40 and foil to remove the rust.
Stripped off the lugs, throw off, butt plate and internal dampener.
Dry cleaned the inside and outside with a microfiber cloth.
Soaked the shell in water and dish detergent overnight.
Soaked the tension rods in WD-40.
Applied a non-abrasive chrome cleaner inside and out to the shell. Polished the lugs.
Reinstalled the lugs etc.
Applied lithium grease to the tension rods.
New Remo Ambassador and Ambassador.
Voila!
Sorry to be a nerd...
I've recently bought a '70s Supraphonic. Sadly the original heads have long gone and the drum is in a bit of neglected sad state. 😒 So I'm giving it a clean up and overhaul.
I'm wondering if these snare wires are likely to be the factory fitted ones? Or at least the type that Ludeig were using at the time.
Grateful if anyone happens to know. Thanks.
Help with snare ID please - Supraphonic?
So, I decided to have a look to see if I could pick a used Supralite as they seem to be well regarded and not expensive.
I found this drum online while looking. I'm 99.9% sure that it is not a Supralite. I think it's possibly an older Supraphonic (nob for the internal muffler, lugs look colosseum-type).
Not an insane bargain, but with shipping it'll be about $235.
Thanks in advance.
