The Immitation of Christ

Good morning!

So my husband is reading the Immitation of Christ and he likes to discuss passages that he has read with me and we end up having really good discussions about our faith and theology. However, I have an issue with this book and to me its just very... augustinian (i dont know how else to explain it). I haven't read it but from what we discuss it sounds like Thomas a Kempis is saying nothing of this world matters and to only focus and seek comfort in God.

I undestand that he wrote the book thinking of his monastic life and for his brothers. So how is a lay person supposed to interprate his teachings? Especially for a husband with a wife and newborn? Are we not supposed to enjoy those things that God has gifted us on earth?

This is the second Agustinian book he has read and he said that St.Augustin also wrote like this in his book. So is there a way to interpret these writtings through a lay person perspective? And are there other books you would recommend that have other points of view?

Thank you for your time,

Anger towards other women holding my baby

Does anyone feel rage towards other women specifically?

My LO is 3 weeks old and we are first time parents.

I first experienced this anger to some level with my mom. Whenever she would hold him and cuddle him I would start feeling annoyed. But not when my dad held him. Now that they left and my SIL flew over to help for a bit the rage is real. Whenever she asks to hold him or cuddles him I just want to grab my baby and kick her out of the house 😫. I bite my tongue because everyone has been really helpful and I take the opportunity to shower, take a nap or have some quality time with my husband and I don't think anyone had noticed that this is how I actually feel. But I just can't help feeling so much rage when I see other women being all cuddly and motherly to him.

Maybe I don't feel this towards men because I don't perceive them as a threat? I have no idea what is going on but I hate it, I wish I could be more chill 😩 has anyone else experienced this? When do you stop feeling this way?

Foley balloon, will the pain decrease?

I'm at 41+1 weeks (FTM) and started my induction process. I got the foley balloon placed in today at around 10:00am (currently 14:43 where I am).

I am experiencing some bad period like cramps that goes down to the top of my thighs. Sometimes I can find a position that decreases or stops the pain and other times it just gets worse with baby movements.

Will the pain go away eventually or will it just get worse? And does anyone know why some women have worse experiences than others?
