Marathon visual identity

I used to be a firm believer that Marathon's visual style was very chaotic and I didn't really like it... but nowadays I find it admirable that you can tell what game it is just by seeing one screenshot... the game has a very good visual identity, I don't know who from "Bungie" was in charge of that but it gets my ten points.

Also the game looks absolutelly incredible.

My Thoughts on "Marathon"

First of all i wrote all of this on spanish my native language and then i used google translate soo... sorry if there's something wrong.

Marathon ended up doing something to me that, honestly, hadn't happened with a video game in years.

I tried it during free access thinking it was going to be "just another extraction shooter," and I got so hooked that I not only decided to buy it, but I went straight for the Deluxe Edition. It had been a very long time since a game had captivated me like that.

And the funny thing is, it didn't even really grab my attention at first.

in fact, the art style was one of the things that convinced me the least when I saw trailers or screenshots. It seemed too strange, too colorful, and even a bit visually chaotic. But the more I played, the more I listened to the audio, the more I learned about the factions, and the more I understood the world of Marathon... the more it began to fascinate me.

Today, I honestly think it has one of the strongest visual identities I've seen in a very long time.

The first thing that won me over was the gunplay.

Shooting in Marathon feels incredible. Each weapon has weight, personality, and a sense of impact that's hard to explain until you play it. There are weapons you know the one you hear fire, and that speaks volumes about both the audio design and the overall direction of the game.

And the sound design is simply phenomenal.

The sound effects, the music, the atmosphere, the alarms, the distant gunshots, the footsteps—everything constantly contributes to building tension. Many times I found myself moving slowly simply because the audio keeps you alert to everything happening around you.

The soundtrack also deserves special mention because it perfectly complements the blend of science fiction, mystery, and constant exploration. There are moments when the music appears exactly when it needs to, greatly enhancing the experience.

But if there's one thing that truly sold me on the world of Marathon, it was the intros, the contractors, and the entire narrative presentation.

The intros are spectacular.

Each contractor has their own personality, clear motivations, and a presence that makes you want to keep accepting jobs just to hear more about them. I honestly think it's one of the most interesting systems of indirect storytelling I've seen in a long time.

And that ties in directly with another point I loved: the lore.

There's an absurd amount of hidden history everywhere. The more you investigate, the more you discover that behind every mission, character, or location, there's so much more than meets the eye. I completely understand why so many people became obsessed with Marathon's story because there comes a point where you want to keep playing both for the gameplay and to understand what's really going on in that universe.

The contracts also struck me as a brilliant idea.

They not only serve as progression, but they constantly give you clear objectives within each incursion. I always felt like I had something to do, something to look for, or some progress to make. That helps a lot in giving each playthrough a purpose.

And although many people focus solely on the PvP aspect, I personally really liked that the extraction component is relatively accessible to new players.

There's tension, there's risk, but I didn't feel that huge barrier that other extraction shooters have, where you get destroyed for twenty hours straight before you start to understand anything. Here I was able to learn, make mistakes, and improve without feeling like I was completely wasting my time.

I also really liked the skill tree and the customization options. There's room to experiment, try different builds, and adapt the character to your playstyle.

Visually, I also think it's spectacular.

The graphics are excellent, but beyond that, what really impressed me was the atmosphere within the maps. There are areas that convey an incredible sense of abandonment, danger, or mystery. Many times I found myself observing details of the scenery when, in theory, I should have been focused on surviving.

Now, not everything was perfect.

The AI of the bots can be absurdly aggressive at times. There were situations where I felt I was being punished much more than I expected, especially when I was still learning certain mechanics. Sometimes the difficulty feels challenging and fun, but other times it just seems unfair.

I also think the beginning can be quite tough for new players.

The game lets you go too quickly. There are important systems that are barely explained, and a huge amount of text, concepts, factions, and names that end up being overwhelming at first. I understand they want the player to discover things for themselves, but I think they could have provided a bit more guidance during the first few hours.

And something that frustrated me several times was the loot RNG.

There were raids where I needed specific ammo, a certain weapon, or some particular resource, and nothing I was looking for just appeared. That's part of the genre, obviously, but when you string together several runs with bad luck, it can feel quite frustrating.

Even so, none of those problems managed to make me stop playing.

Because Marathon has something special.

It's one of those games where you constantly say "just one more run," and when you look at the clock, three hours have passed. There's always a contract to complete, an upgrade to unlock, a piece of lore to uncover, or simply another raid you want to try.

Honestly, it's one of the most addictive, original, and memorable experiences I've had in years.

I give it a 91/100. A game that borders on perfection within the genre and is a fascinating entry point for everyone.

It's not perfect and still has things to polish, but it achieved something very few games manage these days: making me want to keep playing even when I should have closed the game hours ago.

Sorry for that amount of text but i wanted to share my thoughts deeply and personal experiences, Thanks for reading and have a nice day!!!

My Thoughts after finishing RE 1

First of all i'm a native spanish speaker so i used translator to all of text so sorry if there's anything wrong...

I'm sharing this just cause i want to know other thoughts, good and bad points on the game and if the survival horror enjoyers could reccommend me any game to play after RE1 (i'm about to play RE 0).

Resident Evil 1 HD Remaster seemed crazy to me even today.

I completely understand why so many people consider it one of the best survival horror games ever made because it truly feels like the foundation of the entire genre.

I played it on Steam and it ended up surprising me much more than I expected since I didn't have much faith in it because of how old it is, but how wrong I was...

What I highlight the most are the puzzles and the game's structure. The mansion is incredible, the settings are vast, complex, and super well connected to each other. Everything has a constant heavy and mysterious atmosphere. There are modern games that still don't manage to convey that sense of exploration and tension as well as this one.

Additionally, I really liked how it handles backtracking and resources. Every bullet matters, every healing item you think thru, and opening a new door really sparks curiosity. I went back thousands of times to store things in the chests and thus better manage the inventory slots, and I totally understand why this game is considered an example of classic survival horror.

The plot also ended up liking me much more than I expected. It has that slightly strange and serious touch typical of classic Resident Evil, but it works very well, the characters are charismatic, and the replayability is enormous with routes, difficulties, variants, and secrets that the game has. You can really feel the love in the game's content and details.

Another amazing thing is that on PC there are mods to upscale the textures to 4K and honestly, the game is even more enjoyable that way. I used one that improves the inventory icons, another for general textures and lighting, and one more for the 3D character models, but nothing that changes a mechanic or anything in the gameplay, just simple visual improvements. Personally, I think the pre-rendered backgrounds look beautiful and help a lot in making it visually age super well.

And something I thot was going to bother me a lot were the fixed cameras and classic controls, but in the end, it wasn't that bad. Yes, at first they feel strange, but once you get used to them, you understand why they work so well for tension and exploration. It's not as complicated to play as many people make it seem, and sometimes it's even a plus not knowing what's behind that corner or what's at the end of the hallway.

As a negative point, I do think the game sometimes offers too little help with some puzzles. There were moments when I felt quite lost, and if you don't look up a guide or didn't interpret something important beforehand, the game can punish you quite a bit. I understand that it's part of the classic experience, but some solutions are a bit convoluted, and for people who aren't very attentive (like me), it can mean a good few minutes wandering around and checking the inventory to find the solution.

I would have also liked to see more interactions between characters during the campaign (I played with Jill). I felt that there were fewer reactive dialogs as you progressed. For example, if Jill commented more often on things she saw or important situations. Seeing a new zombie, finding something strange, or reacting to certain events with extra phrases would have greatly added to the immersion and the character. I still understand perfectly that for the time, doing something like that was probably much more complicated.

And speaking of the era... honestly, I don't understand how something like that existed on PlayStation 1...

The amount of scenarios, enemies, objects, puzzles, routes, and content it has is incredible for that hardware. It has a scale and level of detail that still impresses and leaves it in a very good position.

I loved it from start to finish and I'm going to replay it with Barry now. I give it a 91/100. Prodigies of survival horror like this one, I honestly don't think there are many more.

Thanks for reading have a nice day!

What it does well:

  • Vehicle build system
  • Character stats that affect gameplay
  • Dynamic map changes with portals
  • Land, air, and naval vehicles
  • Well-balanced multiplayer events (3, 4, 6 players)
  • Good anti-cheat system

>👉 There's real variety, and the gameplay remains dynamic but sometimes feels too chaotic, i prefer to have a lil bit more of control on my race.

What adds:

  • More pronounced progression than other arcade games
  • Customization that truly makes an impact
  • Well-balanced difficulty in events
  • Nice amount of gadgets for builds (bad "meta" cause of them)

>👉 It's not just about racing: there are decisions behind the scenes.

What i personally think that devs could improve:

  • Recycled environments (not tracks, but environments we've seen a hundred times)
  • They feel repetitive over time
  • Balance changes on cars, builds, gadgets
  • "ELO" on the rank system feels weird.

>

⭐ Lack of "All-Star" Abilities

Compared to Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed:

Each character had their own unique ability and more personality.

>

🧩 Added Extras

  • Good track design
  • Very well-achieved arcade feel
  • Fast and accessible pace
  • Good entry point for casual and competitive players

It's the closest thing to Mario Kart on PC: fun, varied, and with good ideas, but still with decisions that prevent it from fully standing out. Personally, I would add the option to wall-ride in some sections of the map, which would give it more unique gameplay and different routes.

I don't feel its price is justified, but perhaps $35 to $50 would be more reasonable, and with discounts, I would recommend it even more!
