You guys gave me an award for listening to your feedback. Here is the result: Complete UI Overhaul & New Mechanics!

Hey everyone,

I’m the solo dev from Austria working on Timberline Factory. About 8 days ago, I posted here and got roasted for my "90s wood style UI" and AI placeholder art. Honestly...? It was the best thing that could happen!! :)
I took your feedback to heart and spent the last week working day and night...

What changed:

  • Complete UI Overhaul: I threw away the old wood textures and built a fresh "Industrial Modern" HUD from scratch.
  • Maintenance System: Machines now accumulate dirt over time, which reduces production speed. you can now hire "Cleaners" to automate the maintenance!
  • Visual Polish: Improved the "Golden Hour" lighting even further to make the factory feel more atmospheric.
  • New Content: Added the Drying Kiln and Biomass Power Plant loop to give the tycoon gameplay more depth.

I made a short Before/After comparison video here: [short Youtube video]

I’m a coder, not an artist, but I’m committed to making this game as "honest" and polished as possible. Does the new look feel like a step in the right direction?

(I'm heading to my late shift soon, so I might be slow to reply, but I'll check every comment during my breaks! thank you!)

You guys roasted my last post for the AI art and dark lighting. I spent the last hours overhauling the graphics and made a new "honest" store capsule. What do you think?

hey everyone,

i'm the solo dev from austria working on Timberline Factory. i got quite a bit of tough feedback on my last post here regarding the AI slop capsule art and the dark/plastic looking graphics...

honestly, it was a wake up call. i used the AI art as a placeholder because i'm a coder, not an artist, but i see now how much it hurt the first impression..

i spent the last few days fixing exactly what you mentioned

  • Overhauled the lighting: switched to a warmer "golden hour" look to get rid of the dark/plastic feel.
  • New Log Models: the logs are now high-poly and actually round.
  • New Honest Capsule: i threw away the AI image and made a new store header using a real in-game screenshot + the logo.
  • New Building: added the Biomass Power Plant to handle bark waste and add more tycoon depth.
  • Real Sounds: recorded actual industrial sawmill sounds for the machines.

i'm still a one man army :D but i'm committed to making this look and feel authentic... would love to hear if this is a step in the right direction for you guys!

Here is the new look -> Steam page (with new visuals and trailer): https://store.steampowered.com/app/5037170/Timberline_Factory/

thanks for all the feedback

Building a sawmill tycoon where every log is a physics object (Timberline Factory)

Hey everyone!

I'm a solo dev from Austria and for the last few months, I've been obsessing over sawmill logistics.

I always felt that in most automation games, the items feel a bit "dead" because they are just icons moving on a rail. For my game, Timberline Factory, I wanted to change that: every single log is a physics-based object. They roll, they have weight, and they collide with each other.

It makes designing the conveyor lines way more tactical (and honestly, a bit chaotic if you don't get the sorting right).

The core loop is:

  • Build and optimize your sawmill lines.
  • Manage machine wear and tear (sawdust makes things break!).
  • Handle different wood types with different properties.
  • Try to stay profitable while expanding the factory.

I finally got the Steam page live and I'm stoked to show some of the progress. Would love to hear what you guys think about the "tactile" physics approach!

I'll be around if you have any questions about the physics or the machines!
