I wear a lot of hats at work, which means I usually have a lot of windows open. Upwards of 15 at once for various PDF softwares, CAD softwares, and the biggest one: browser profiles. I use 4 different browser profiles at work. One for purchasing and vendors, one for project management, one for banking and finances, and the last one for customer communication.

On Windows, these all appear as different icons in the taskbar. All the different browser profiles are their own thing I can click. Same with all the different programs. On MacOS however, it stacks all the windows of a single program together. I either have to Cmd Tab through to find them (which takes forever when you have this many pieces of software open), I can Ctrl + Up Arrow to see all open windows (again, not helpful when there are this many), or I can mouse over the dock, right click the icon, and then try and find the correct window in the sea of browser windows (not super helpful when there are this many).

Is there a better way to do this? I see people talk all the time about virtual desktops, but that is not a viable solution either, as I need access to ALL of this at a moment's notice, and I usually am switching windows every 10-15 seconds as I am working on things.

  • I currently have a Surface Laptop Studio 2 with a Surface Dock. It is buggy. It is broken. It lasts less than 60 minutes on a full charge. I cannot control the "smart charging" except for "pausing" smart charging, which is will undo at random to lock me at 80% again, so I only get about 45 minutes of battery life. I hate this thing more than any other laptop I've ever used.
  • I have a preference towards ThinkPads, as I have had really good experiences with them in the past, but I am open to other brands. It needs to look professional and be pretty durable. This is a work laptop for someone who runs a contracting business.
  • Must be a Windows first laptop. I love my MacBook, but it cannot run most of the software I need for work.
  • I am open to going above that $2,400 limit. However, I am not wanting to just spend infinite money on something that goes beyond what I need.

It is very odd. It is ONLY the right half of my monitor. My resolution is set to the native resolution of 5120 x 2160. My refresh rate is native at 165.06hz, and adaptive sync is set to "never." I'm running an Nvidia 4070Ti, and modinfo -F version nvidia outputs 610.57.04.

I've tried switching the adaptive sync to all three different modes, as that was what some people online suggested. But I am running out of ideas to troubleshoot this issue. It does not happen on Windows. Does anyone have suggestions on what to attempt next to fix this?

I'm still fairly new to all of this, coming over from Kubuntu. I went to install Obsidian, and there are five options available for Linux.

• Deb
• AppImage (ARM)
• Flatpak (Community Maintained)

I understand what Flatpaks are, but I am not going to be using a community maintained version of Obsidian. I want to use the official from the developers. Deb and Snap I recognize from Kubuntu, but I do not think either work on Fedora, since it is not built on Debian.

So that would leave me with AppImage. What's the difference between installing something as an AppImage or as a Deb, for example? If I was on Kubuntu, it looks as if I would have 3 options here, but what makes AppImage special? Why does that work and not Deb?

I've been using an Instant Pot for a few years to cook rice, and it's almost always a disappointment. The rice consistency is all over the place, even with the same cooking time. Altering the amount of rice dramatically changes whether it's sticky or not sticky, wet or dry. Suggestions on the internet and in cookbooks are all over the place. Not a single page seems to agree with another as to what the actual ratio and timing should be.

So, I'm looking into a rice cooker, as I cook rice extremely often. 10-14 of my meals each week contain rice. Sometimes I want it sticky, like for a stir fry. Other times I want it dry. I cook a wide variety of rice as well, including basmati, jasmine, long grain white, short grain white, and brown rice.

I see that Zojirushi is recommended everywhere. But they are very expensive for a single use appliance. I looked into Serious Eats opinion on rice cookers, and they have a cheap Hamilton Beach rice cooker as their top choice lol. And my Filipino friend has been using a $100 10-cup Cuckoo basic (not the Micom, just the basic) for the last few years, and she says it works great. I've had her rice, and it was great.

So lots of mixed reviews on rice cookers here. Is it worth it to buy the Ferrari of rice cookers when professional reviewers and a direct reference from a friend suggest I shouldn't spend more than $100 on one?

So I've been trying to get KDE working on my Framework 16 laptop with the external Radeon GPU (the original Framework 16, not the new one). I started out by installing Mint, which was fantastic, and I installed the KDE desktop environment. I noticed that as I scrolled around, opened the start menu, etc., there was some "flickering," like purple and green static-y type flickering. I figured it was due to the fact that Mint was not supported by default by Framework according to their website.

So I switched to Kubuntu, as Ubuntu is one of the officially supported distros, and I figured just having a slightly different desktop environment would not change anything. But the issue still persists on Kubuntu as well. Do you have ideas on what might be causing it, and why it seems to specifically be KDE? Cinnamon and Gnome did not have these issues.

I use Tailscale to acces my NAS on the go as well as a variety of other things. However, I also like to use a VPN, especially on public WiFi. What I'm wondering is, does using them both at the same time negate the benefits of the VPN? I know that Tailscale in a way is technically a VPN. On mobile, you can't even run both Tailscale and ProtonVPN/Mullvad VPN at the same time. But on a laptop, you can for some reason, and both seem to work.

Checking my IP address shows me in the VPN's location AND the Tailnet is still accessible. But is it certainly still encrypting my information?

I've already read Atomic Habits, Deep Work, Dopamine Nation, and Anxious Generation. I also come to this subreddit maybe once a week or so and browse through the posts to help maintain my motivation. But I was curious, what other sources are out there that are encouraging for productivity? Books, YouTube channels, etc. I want to keep finding ways to supercharge my life.
