Hi everyone,
I’ve had dark under-eye circles (“allergic shiners”) since I was a child.
I recently tested positive for dust mites, grass pollen, and cats. I also have chronic nasal congestion and often breathe through my mouth at night.
I’m already using a steroid nasal spray and taking a daily antihistamine, but I’m wondering if there’s anything else that has helped people.
Has anyone with similar allergies seen their dark circles improve?
Did allergy shots (immunotherapy) help?
Did surgery (like fixing nasal obstruction) help?
How much improvement did you see?

18M with chronic dark circles. GP wasn’t sure of the cause.
Hi everyone,
I’m an 18-year-old male and I’ve had dark circles under my eyes for many years.
Relevant history:
Chronic allergies (dust mites, pollen, cats)
Chronic nasal congestion
I snore and I’m currently being evaluated for a possible sleep disorder
I often wake up feeling unrefreshed
Allergy medication has helped my allergy symptoms but hasn’t improved the dark circles much
My dermatologist mentioned hydroquinone if pigmentation turns out to be a significant factor
I’m mainly trying to understand what is causing them.
Do they look most consistent with:
Allergic shiners?
Hyperpigmentation?
Thin skin/visible blood vessels?
Tear troughs/volume loss?
Facial anatomy?
Or a combination?

Any opinions or advice on which specialist I should see next would be greatly appreciated.
