Moving to Haarlem

Hi everyone!

I'm a 24F from India, and my boyfriend and I are planning to move to Haarlem later this year. Since we've never been to the Netherlands and don't know anyone there, we're trying to get a better idea of the different neighborhoods before we start apartment hunting.

We're looking for a peaceful, quiet, and safe area to live in. Our budget is around €2,500/month for a 1 or 2 bedroom apartment, so we'd love any recommendations on neighborhoods that fit that budget.

I'd also really appreciate knowing if there are any areas that you'd recommend avoiding, whether due to higher crime, theft, safety concerns or if they're generally not very welcoming to expats or people of color. As an Indian couple moving to Netherlands for the first time, that's something we're anxious about.

Any advice, local insights or things you wish you'd known before moving to Haarlem would be hugely appreciated.

Thanks so much :))

Why is no one coming to Ireland to study anymore?

Genuine question because it feels like the vibe changed almost overnight.

Until last year, my feed was full of people applying to Irish universities, getting visas, asking about accommodation, and moving here. Now it feels like every other post is about people choosing somewhere else.

I know trends change, but this feels so sudden. Usually these things happen gradually, not within what feels like a single year.

Is it just my algorithm, or has there actually been a noticeable drop in international students choosing Ireland?

My_qualifications : Finishing masters in CS.

Job opportunites in Netherlands vs Ireland

Hi all,

I'm a 24 F, currently completing my masters (Computer Science) in Ireland but will soon be moving to Netherlands on a partner visa. I'm unsure if it's wise to leave Ireland to find a job in the Netherlands (I won't need sponsorship tho, in Ireland I will need one), I'm willing to learn Dutch and on it already. Please advise if I'm going to have a harder time in NL finding a job, I'll reconsider my move. However I'll be saving on rent and other expenses in NL since my partner is going to bear them until I find a job.

Thankss :))

How is the job market in the Netherlands right now as compared to Ireland?

Hi all,

my_qualifications: Completing Masters in Computer Science.

I'm a 24 F, currently completing my masters in Ireland but will soon be moving to Netherlands on a partner visa. I'm unsure if it's wise to leave Ireland (on Stamp 2 visa currnetly) to find a job in the Netherlands (I won't need sponsorship tho, in Ireland I will need one), I'm willing to learn Dutch. I have just one year of total industry experience at IBM.

Please advise if I'm going to have a harder time in NL finding a job, I'll reconsider my move. However I'll be saving on rent and other expenses in NL since my partner is going to bear them until I find a job.

Thankss :))

PhD in the Netherlands

Hi all,

I'm a 24 F, currently studying in Ireland but will soon be moving to Netherlands on a partner visa. I'm unsure if it's wise to leave Ireland to find a PhD in the Netherlands. My college offers absolutely no PhD positions in my field so I'm not hoping for getting a position at my college. I'm come from Computer Science background. Please advise if I'm going to have a harder time in NL finding a position, I'll reconsider my move. However I'll be saving on rent and other expenses in NL since my partner is going to bear them until I find a job.

Thankss :))
