Manchester Foundation Year or Cardiff Architecture

Hey everyone, after receiving my A‑level results I unfortunately didn’t meet the grade requirements for Manchester Architecture. I have been offered a Foundation Year there instead. On the other hand, I went through clearing and received an offer from Cardiff for Architecture without a foundation year.

I’m currently unsure which option to choose. I know Manchester is stronger than Cardiff in terms of ranking, job prospects, and (in my opinion) the city itself. But still both strong universities. However, my main concern is the Foundation Year. I’m worried about not being able to pass it and missing out on the typical first‑year student experience. How different is the Foundation Year compared to Year 1, and how difficult is it to pass?

I’d really appreciate advice from anyone who has done a Foundation Year or has been in a similar situation. Thank you.

Request for Consideration Despite Grade Shortfall

I’m just wondering, if I don’t get the required grades for Architecture, would I still be able to ask the university to accept me? And does this happen?

Getting architecture experience before starting uni

I’m 18 and planning to go to university this year to study architecture. I want to be completely honest. I don’t have much understanding yet of what working as an architect is actually like or what skills I’m supposed to know beforehand.

I know I could start studying and researching now, but whenever I look at architecture content online, it feels like something I won’t fully understand until I experience it or speak to someone who works in the field.

Because of that, I’m thinking about doing a day or even a week of work experience at an architecture firm before uni. I’m not sure how common that is or whether firms usually offer it.

Has anyone done this or knows whether it’s possible? Any advice would really help.

planning to start a band

Hi! I will be moving to Manchester and I'm looking to start a band to play gigs.

I have previous live performance experience and can play rhythm guitar while singing lead vocals. I'm currently looking for a lead guitarist, bassist, and drummer, so if you play any of those, feel free to DM me! Also looking for people 18-22.

I'm open to different musical tastes, but some of the bands I love and would love to perform are Radiohead, Nirvana, Arctic Monkeys, The Smiths, The Strokes, and Fontaines D.C**.** It'd be great to find people with similar influences, but it's not a requirement.

If you don't play but know someone who might be interested, I'd really appreciate it if you could share this post. Thanks!
