TIL that you can connect to IPv4 addresses like 192.168.1.1 in your browser through it's decimal form: 3232235777

You can apparently use the decimal integer number on browsers to navigate to IP addresses. For instance: http://192.168.1.1 which is the typical address for your router, can be written as: http://3232235777. Of course if you know your own website IP, you could navigate to it through it's decimal form.

Here is the basic calculation, in case you are wondering: 192 × 256³ + 168 × 256² + 1 × 256 + 1 = 3232235777

Edit: You know the popular internet T-Shirts: "There is no place like 127.0.0.1". Here is a freebie someone should make: There is no place like 2130706433".

Have a great rest of your weekend!

I finally know how I want Half Life 3 to end

G-man teleports Gordon to an alien Xen world after all of the chaos you endure in Half Life 3 and says: Thank you for your service, but you are no longer needed Mr. Freeman. Just as he's about to put Gordon back into stasis, Gordon says his first words. He says: I am Gordon Freeman with a huge emphasis on Free, and chucks his crowbar into G-mans throat! Then says: I am half life. And everything fades to black. Credits roll

I don't even think Valve has a better idea than this! 👆

What's a good solution to fix floating legs off edges in Unreal Engine?

I can think of multiple solutions to solve this, but I am wondering if there is a good, tested solution for situations where your capsule is on the edge but the characters legs are completely off the surface? See picture in the comments.

Ohh noo... don't use Tick!..

Hey, I've seen this being mentioned all the time: "Never / don't use the Event Tick". It is true that you should avoid using it to some extent. If you don't need to update a value every single tick, then don't.

Buuuuut... you do know that a bunch of variables are being evaluated and updated on tick for animations? Same goes for bindings, they constantly need to listen for events and changes.

Use tick when you need to, and don't overcomplicate your work.

People are having problems with Fab not appearing in the Unreal Engine 5.8 Editor. I made a tutorial for a solution.

You can watch the video here: https://youtu.be/ZmotIC-Vlq8?is=PW\_Ay2vyy4fzicg6

In short, you need to remap the .item files to the .manifest of the project so the Epic launcher can find the files to update / uninstall and reinstall them.

Over 12 289 games have been released on steam this year (These are Games, not DLC)

I check Steam DB every once in a while to see how much stuff that is uploaded to Steam every week. From 1 of January to today July 2 this year, we've had 12 289 games released: https://steamdb.info/stats/gameratings/2026/?displayOnly=Game&max_release=2026-07-02&min_release=2026-01-01&sort=release_asc

(Even the DB can't show it all, so you'll have to do two searches.)

Why am I telling you this? I don't want to discourage anyone from working on their passion. I just want to be honest: even if you make a good game, making it visible is going to be a real challenge. Just a few years ago, if you had a good idea or project, and executed it well; people would find it. I doubt that's the case today.

Also: I just checked briefly, about 50% of the games have had 5 concurrent player at most.

So Blueprints are being removed in Unreal Engine 6, thoughts?

In the "State of Unreal 2026 Unreal Fest Chicago" video released today, we got more information on Unreal Engine 6; and that blueprints will be deprecated later down the line. This ties in to my prior conversation about AI, and that it doesn't make sense for AI to write blueprints.

Any thoughts? How do you feel about this?

Heads up to ANYONE who buys assets / plugins on FAB.

Hey, I've seen more and more people generating AI plugins and assets and putting it up on FAB. Many developers lie about their use of AI on the product pages, you can clearly see that it's AI generated, yet they don't check the : "Generated with AI". Additionally, I want to apologise on behalf of those developers. It doesn't just hurt your projects in terms of performance, but it also ruins it for all of us who try to work ethically.

I highly suggest NOT buying anything from someone who generated a plugin with AI, without doing proper research. You can't trust that they will help you when issues arise which is something that Fab takes rather serious, but can't follow up on. For that matter, I would suggest avoiding anything with an AI generated image too. If someone spent months creating a plugin, they can spend a little more time than a 1 minute prompt for their plugin cover.

Honestly it's a little disappointing and I expected more from developers. I counted all of the released plugins in 2025 and it was: 587 plugins released. In 2026 we already have 938 plugins released... AND half the year hasn't passed yet. We don't have more or better developers, we just have more accessible AI and people use it like crazy.

Unreal Engine is updated constantly, and old functions and code gets deprecated all the time. You can't rely on some vibe coder bro making plugins. Try to look at the genuine interests they have in actually maintaining the work before you commit. Again, I'm sorry for you guys. I've been using Unreal Engine for over 10 years now, so it's easier for me to notice if something feels genuine. If you are looking to buy something but are unsure, feel free to send me a message and I can tell you my opinion about the validity of their work.

Cheers!

A message to everyone learning and posting here about your Unreal Engine projects.

Hey! If you are learning Unreal Engine and asking questions, please consider providing the right information. Half of the posts I read are incomplete, missing key details, not allowing us to give proper feedback.

For example: If you post an image of your project asking: "How can I improve?" There is absolutely not enough context at all for any of us to help you. Is it for a game? Is it for a short film or arch viz? Are you using lumen and or nanite? Have you made your own materials?

All of these factors matters if you actually want help.

If you just want to show off your stuff, do so and be clear about it.

I can make a calculator in Unreal, or a mobile app, or a web application. Unreal is a framework and the context of what you are making is important to give you proper feedback.

Same goes with all of you posting pictures of blueprints. Take a screenshot, and don't photograph your monitor with your shaky handheld phone. And explain what it does, what's expected and what's going wrong.

And lastly, if you are working on a project that will be in production for more than 2 months, setup version control. If it looks too scary or complicated, don't even bother making a game. If you can't setup version control, don't even begin to think that you can scrape together a decent game that will sell.

AI and blueprints?

I keep seeing aaaallllloooot of posts where people push their AI tools / MCPs to create blueprints with ChatGPT, Claude, and other AI.

As someone who use Unreal and have been for 10+ years, I have a hard time understanding why? Why bother, when you could have the AI write performant C++ code? I don't use AI for game development, I still prefer writing the code myself, whilst AI is okey for solving difficult or complex problems (if even then).

To those using these MCP tools, and creators of these tools, please make me understand? The only reason why I see this being useful is because blueprints are easier to tweak for beginners... but at the same time, when AI write your code, you end up with something you still have to scan through to know how to change. + the amount of tokens used is craaazy!
