Bus Driver Closed Back Exit Door Repeatedly On Me
As I was attempting to get off a cross-town bus, of which many people were exiting, I was the last to attempt to get off. In front of me, a woman had the door closed on her twice, before exiting. As I attempted to exit, the door was closed on my arm I held out for fear of being closed in and missing my stop. I looked back into the corridor leading up to the bus as my arm was stuck and yelled “back door!”, only to have the bus driver close the door three more times in quick succession on my arm, then my torso as I tried to get out, and it pressed roughly against my arm to my torso to the point I now have a mark. I’m a young person, I can handle this sort of abuse, but I and nobody else should have to suffer through whatever negligence or abuse that bus driver was inflicting on passengers.
I’ve already reported the bus with the number, time, and stop that it occurred. However, this is not the first time I’ve witnessed drivers closing doors on people, especially the elderly who are much more at risk of serious injury from these things. I am concerned these reports do nothing to deter drivers from this behavior.
Why does this happen, and why is nothing serious done to prevent it?
