Data fields for a conflict check spreadsheet used for appearance attorney work. Am I missing anything vital?

Hi all,

While I wait to start my job in July, I'm doing appearance attorney work through CAP. It's been simple debt collection cases so far and I've enjoyed getting the experience as a baby attorney.

I understand the heightened risk of conflicts that freelance attorneys bear, and am doing my best to maintain a database to conduct conflict checks to ensure I comply with the relevant conflict rules. I document the following fields:

  1. Client name

  2. Opposing party's name

  3. The firm that hired me

  4. The firm's attorney assigned to the case

  5. The nature of the case/case number

  6. Jurisdictional information

  7. Date the representation began/ended

Is there other information I should be tracking going forward?

In April, the Court of Appeals heard oral argument on State v. Michael Faile, a shoplifting case in which police relied on flock security camera footage to convict Faile of shoplifting. Faile argues such evidence violates his warrant and private rights under the South Carolina and United States constitutions.

Hi all,

I’m a baby attorney that has struggled with conciseness, particularly in my law school legal writing. I’ve gotten better, but am still working on it.

What strategies do you use to stay concise and sharp in practice?
