Does anyone have art of the characters in the Omori art style that show them casually and fully visible as well as their faces with nothing too dynamic or complicated? Im running out of official art to use to study. I‘m okay if it’s Omocat’s art or fan art thats very similar to the Omori art style.
I find it ironic how she calls everyone nerds but looks like one herself
Not my favourite but I’d say it has his likeness
I don't know why no ones discussing it but the manga is just a worse version of the game which I feel spreads very harmful messages about friendship in contrast with the game.
It starts off showing Sunny in the real world and then shows us bully Aubrey without us getting to know the sweet version of Aubrey yet meaning there's no shock at all when we see her after years. Only thing I like really about manga Aubrey is that she gets more backstory then what was in the game which I have no problem with.
However Aubrey's character has been absolutely butchered where it seems every scene she's in is just her screaming at the characters about how miserable she is and how everyone except herself is bad. She shows no sympathy towards anyone for most of the manga with her logic often making no sense. We learn that Kim was also a shut in like Sunny but then Aubrey helped her overcome that issue. But despite feeling sympathy for Kim, she treats Sunny's isolation as being entirely his own fault.
They also have her say things like that she's protecting the photo album from the rest of her friends. And while she also says this in game, by that time she was actually keeping it safe but in the manga she's already thrown it away so it seems she just wanted to gaslight the characters for no reason.
And when she gets to the part where Aubrey pushes Basil into the lake, Hero is never told about what happened and unlike the game the characters don't seem to confront her on it. And what extremely bothers me is that in the latest chapter, chapter 18. She's not judge but is apologize to by Kel with the narrative framing it as she's been completely misunderstood despite that she's been verbally and physically abusing Sunny, Kel and Basil multiple times in the last chapters. While the game had Kel be too hard towards her but Hero still understanding his reasons to be upset.
Now before anyone tells me Aubrey's not at fault due to all her trauma with Mari and her family. I just want you all to know that trauma is not a excuse. It can make one's actions understandable but they still have to take accountability. The problem with the manga is that their treating it as if Aubrey doesn't have to give any accountability due to her trauma where in the game she tries her very best to make up for everything she did.
And putting Aubrey aside, I don't get any of the artistic choices. The game had a simple colorful cartoon esthetic with Faraway being a fun suburban town that contrasted with the magical and surrealist you see in headspace. But now all that is gone because everything is just black and white meaning nothing ever seems to differentiate the two worlds. Now to clarify I have nothing against manga that's just black and white. But those are like that to start with and are able to work within their limitations in amazing ways. While a game like Omori where color is very important instead loses qualities in that format.
And if your not going to probably adapt a piece of media then there's little reason to read it as oppose to just enjoying the original. Another thing is that the psychological horror aspect has seemed to be dialed down a massive amount with Sunny no longer encountering SOMETHING in its many forms like the spiders or in the water. Which I believe is a massive lost as in the game it showed Sunny slowly one by one overcoming his fears but now its gone.
I also hate how it seems Hero is less of a responsible older brother as he seemed to treat Kel as if he was in the wrong when Kel was angry at Aubrey while he had every right to be. In general I just don't see what reason there is to read the manga as opposed to just playing the game. Nothing personal against Nui but I don't think they understand the game well and I do feel there's a reason I barely hear enough people talk about it online.
What is Kel apologizing for here? All the things he said to Aubrey that were mean would've been during the times Aubrey was being the main aggressor. And even if he's going to simply say sorry for that to be a good friend. Then why is the narrative framing it as Kel being in the wrong the most? Aubrey's response being "I guess I never expected you of all people to actually give a sincere apology" sort of boils my blood as it feels really cocky considering she was threatening and attacking her friends multiple times in the last chapters yet Kel is being treated as ignorant for even being upset. Especially since Sunny was given a nose bleed by Aubrey just a few pages ago. It just feels to me the manga is trying to make us view Aubrey as a complete victim while in the game she was able to take responsibility while still being sympathetic.
>!I never really understood why she put the photos into her garbage while she was mad at Basil for damaging them!<
Like in terms of relationships and how they would compliment each other's characters within the group. Its something I've been wondering recently since both are about cute cartoon like characters going through severe trauma.
I didn’t like the last one so I started again
>!They should‘ve shown him get therapy in the game !<
Aubrey and Kel, the bestest of friends even if they don’t always admit it
I’m trying to get used to the art style. I wish there was more references of the characters that show them naturally.
Very rough drawings but as a draft for the moment. If there was a Something based on claustrophobia, I was thinking it could be like two living breathing walls closing in on the player, like your being overpowered by the area around you and the forces behind it. Perhaps also a figure at the end staring in on you, such as Mari or someone you once knew. I thought I could use it for my oc Summer but I'm not yet sure.
