Troian Bellisario is developing a series with The Rookie creator Alexi Hawley, says she’s “very excited” about the project and would love to guest star on The Rookie. Opinions?

For context, this is from Troian’s March interview with TheWrap after she directed The Rookie. She said she first got connected with creator Alexi Hawley after sharing a pilot she had written with his head of development. During On Call press last year, Troian had also mentioned that she’d had a TV show she’d written for years that she was excited to finally get off the ground.

That connection eventually led to her directing The Rookie, and she said the original project she and Hawley are developing together is now in the process of being “taken out.” She also confirmed they’re still actively working on it.

Do you think Troian gets too much hate for the Finale?

I know it’s basically universally agreed that Troian’s accent was terrible, and I’m not even going to argue otherwise 😭 but sometimes I do feel a little bad for her when I think about how much that ending ended up overshadowing her work on PLL.

She played Spencer for seven years and was consistently considered one of the strongest actors on the show, so it’s kind of wild that one ridiculous finale choice became such a huge part of how people talk about her performance now. Obviously people are allowed to make fun of the accent or criticize the acting, but Alex Drake and that entire reveal were also the result of some genuinely insane writing choices that she had to try to sell.

And this obviously isn’t everyone. Plenty of people can separate bad writing from the actors, but I remember people getting on Troian a lot after the finale because she was defensive of the ending, and honestly I kind of get it 😭 She had worked on the show for years, so of course she was probably going to be more protective of it than the average viewer.

I’ve also seen people say things like “it’s not surprising she hasn’t worked since then,” which is literally not true, or use the Alex Drake accent as proof that she was secretly a terrible actress the entire time. Like come on 😭 You can think the accent was awful without pretending seven seasons of her playing Spencer suddenly don’t count. If anything, I think it just shows how badly the finale managed to overshadow a lot of what actually worked about the show.

AITA for wanting to quit being my sister’s caregiver and build my own life?

I’m 21F and my sister is nine months older than me and has Down syndrome. I love my sister very much, but I feel like my mom has spent our entire lives infantilizing her and now expects me to inherit the responsibility of caring for her.

My sister is physically able-bodied and can do a lot of basic things independently, but my mom rarely encourages it. She’ll get her food and drinks, clean up after her, and do things for her that she is capable of doing herself. My mom has even told me that my sister “can’t” open the microwave to get her own snacks when I know she can. Growing up, there was very little effort put into teaching her independence, and she has always been allowed to sit on her tablet for hours. A lot of our family has called my mom out for babying her.
My mom calls my sister my “patient” and gets upset when I encourage her to do basic things like put her plate in the sink or get a glass of water. She acts like letting my sister do something herself means I don’t love her.

She also constantly tells me that when she dies, I’ll have to take care of my sister. I have an older brother who is alive and well, my dad is still around, and we have other family, but the expectation has increasingly been placed on me. A few months ago, my mom even had me sign paperwork relating to me taking care of my sister after she dies. Someone at my sister’s school literally asked why my dad wasn’t the one handling it.
I’m about to graduate college, and I want a career and eventually my own home and adult life. I don’t want every decision I make to revolve around being my sister’s caregiver.

The caregiving started when I was 17. My mom suggested I become my sister’s paid caregiver through a program, and at 17 I thought it was a good way to make money while I was in school. I agreed to it willingly, but I regret it so much now. My mom holds the fact that I’ve been doing it for years over my head, as though agreeing at 17 means I’m obligated to do this indefinitely. I want to quit and get my own job.
There are also major financial issues in my family. My mom hasn’t worked since my sister and I were around 3. My dad has worked basically my entire life and carried the financial burden. My family has encouraged my mom for years to get even a part-time job, but she refuses and takes it as a personal attack whenever anyone suggests it.

My dad is currently in the process of divorcing my mom and moving out, and I’m terrified that I’ll be left with nothing because my mom hasn’t planned for her life without my dad. A few months ago, when we were facing eviction, she asked me for thousands of dollars and wanted to put my name on the lease despite me being a college student.

Another thing that really hurt me happened recently. I had a doctor’s appointment to get my results, and my mom came with me and brought my sister even though I hadn’t asked her to. The doctor told me I needed to wait, but my mom kept pressuring me to ask when the results would be ready. She eventually got upset and said my sister was “very ill” (she had a small cold) and acted like I was selfish for keeping her there. Later that day, though, she had no problem taking my sister to an event she wanted to attend.

When I finally got my results, my mom didn’t really want to sit down and go through them with me. I ended up telling my grandmother, and my mom joked that I “play victim” by telling her. My results weren’t life-threatening, but I was diagnosed with a lazy eye, retinal thinning, and other eye issues. I just wanted my mom to care about something happening to me for once.
My mom frequently tells me that I only think about myself. Meanwhile, I feel like I’m being expected to think about everyone except myself.

I have no idea where to start in this, but I just want to live life for myself. This situation has greatly depressed me for many years.
