No crow rooster collar
For anyone who ends up with a rooster in your flock by accident this post is for you!! (happens A LOT when people buy a group of chickens online from a hatchery or from local co-ops/ tractor supply, etc.
He is wonderful for our flock of hens (7 girls). We’ve witnessed him break up fights all the time. But the only issue is that I live in the city in a neighborhood. As soon as he started crowing at 5 am, we put the “no crow rooster collar” on him. It worked like a charm and some of you ignorant PETA folks may think it’s “inhumane” but this piece of Velcro strap is saving his life. Otherwise we would have to kill him or give him away. So which is more inhumane!? He doesn’t mind it at all. It was about $30 and well worth it.
The key is not putting it on too tight. Start loose at first and adjust later. We don’t want to obstruct his breathing or make him too uncomfortable. This was our only option other than giving him away (to someone who might kill him for meat or do something more inhumane with)
