My 3D Printed, Customizable, Smart Led Lamp Project

My 3D Printed, Customizable, Smart Led Lamp Project

Hello everyone. I wanted to show off my latest DIY design. Let me know what you think about it.

I have been experimenting with translucent filament and have come up with a print sequence that achieves great light diffusion. I have took a lot of inspiration from LGP panels used in monitor backlights which are used to dissipate a localized light input evenly. I followed up on this finding to design a desk lamp that I think is very unique.

The design uses an ESP32, 8x8 LED matrix, a female USB-C connector, and some cables. The lamp is simply powered through a generic 5V phone charger as there are not many LED's. The software is WLED, which allows for control over WIFI and application of many readily available effects.

You can also make it too! I have documented the process and posted the print files on Maker World as a contest entry. Also the design is parametric, you can simply modify the design on your browser to modify to fit any LED matrix you have 5x5, 16x16, 8x16 etc.

If you liked what i did please consider showing some love in my Maker World post so more people can see my design and make it for themselves.

I came up with this project after I found out that I can use translucent PETG filament to 3D print light diffusors. I paired a 3D printed case and beams with a led matrix and this is the result I got. Every beam is individually placed, making the project highly customizable and unique for everyone.

The design is parametric so you can resize the case to fit any matrix. 5x5, 8x8, 16x16 or even pair matrices in series for a 8x32 setup if you really want to go crazy with it. It is designed to work with solid WS2812B led matrices though the flexible ones should also work in theory.

I posted the design and customizable print files in MakerWorld as my participation for the "Parametric Home Decor Design Contest". You can find more about the project by following the link.

If you liked this project I would appreciate any likes, comments or collects on the project page as it would allow more people to see my design and hopefully win the contest :)
