One of my partners family members passed away overseas recently and a funeral is being held. She has said we are going and have to book last minute international flights. Its not a parent of hers of sibling and I have told her I can’t go because of work and money.
She is furious at me and is telling me that I am not considerate and should be dropping everything for family. If I go for the 2 weeks stretch she insists on I could risk going to $0 and massive debt. Bills and rent don’t just stop because we are not home.
She believes that my work thinks I‘m incompetent because they won’t let me WFH essentially in another country. WFH just isn’t feasible in another country when I do a lot of phone calls and there is a massive time difference.
I want to be there for her but travelling overseas for a funeral and be there for her so she can grieve is just a big stretch. I would do interstate as that is easier and a feasible option. I don’t think it makes me a bad person for not wanting to travel overseas to the other side of the world for this funeral. advice?
