Career change - academic to barrister
I'm currently a postdoc and considering changing career to law. I've entertained this for years, but am burning out in academia. I'm not sure how competitive I would be? I'm interested in criminal law possibly CPS, but also open to kinda any area (I would be doing my GDL so hopefully I would figure it out soon).
My profile:
Undergraduate: UCL, first-class, Spanish and Latin American Studies
MPhil/MSt: Oxbridge, Latin American Studies, top dissertation in cohort
DPhil: Oxbridge, Spanish (fully funded, lectureship during final year, etc)
Postdoc: UCL
I've won various academic prizes at a national and international level for my postgrad work, fluent in Spanish. I've been teaching and publishing at Oxbridge and now UCL again.
In terms of advocacy experience, I don't have anything explicit, although I'm about to start training to become a Samaritans listener. Working with students also brings a lot of pastoral experience.
