What's the Penalty for Blackout Days

Hi, I'm a newer employee <6 months.

Im a high schooler who has in-laws coming in on the 4th, and I tried to make it clear to the person who does our schedules, that I really need that day off, and that if I'm scheduled to come in, I will probably call off...

But how bad is it to actually call off? Some people said it was Double points, some say it instantly gives you an "E card" (or smthn with a name like that)

I am currently only sitting at 1 point for calling off one other time.

Just wanted some employee inputs since I enjoy this job, but it's just a summer job to get some spending money...

Edit: When I say "Summer Job" I meant that I got it for school and Summer, and it's to help me for college; not that I am seasonal, and started in Summer

Final Edit to address:

  1. My family will not be there when I get home...They will be on their way to their flight home to Washington State.

  2. I do have a good work ethic. I have called off ONCE in 6 months for HOSPITALIZATION, and have been working 35hour work weeks, when I was explicitly told I would be scheduled 15-20hrs/week.

  3. In those 6-months of me working, I have been one of those employees that has to "work harder to pick up the slack of a call-off" including black Friday, memorial day, etc. and guess what, I'm still kickin.

People say us kids have terrible work ethic for wanting to spend time with our family, I just think you guys don't like your family.

I love my family, and all 4 of my grandparents are dead, and I will never EVER look back and say that I wished that I worked that holiday and skipped hanging out with them, just to earn $15.00/hr

This post was just to know what the policy was, not to morally guilt trip me into not calling off holy.

Not guaranteed housing as incoming 1st year?

Hi everyone, I'm a perspective student wanting to go to Pitt main campus for the fall of 2026.

When I applied, I was unfortunately waitlisted, but I still had hope to get in.

Luckily, I recently was ACCEPTED! But it was after May 1st.

The reason that's so important is because housing is only guaranteed if you commit before May 1st, which I was not able to due to being on the waitlist and only being accepted after that.

I am wondering if that means I'm SOL and just have to hope to get housing or if there's something I can do.

I want to go to Pitt, but my parents and I are a little stressed because of the not guaranteed housing.

I was just wondering if anybody could help me out on what my next best steps would be.
