Her name is Wiggles, she's 5 ish, loves walks and cuddles. We were told she's a pitty, and we all believe it, I was just curious if anyone said anything different.

I (15F) have been dating my boyfriend (17M) for a little over a month. We're long-distance and usually spend time together on weekends.
A few days ago, I got a call from a girl who claimed to be my boyfriend's ex. She said she was in love with him and asked if she could talk to him. During the call, she also claimed that he was lying in bed with her, even though I had been on a video call with him just a couple of minutes earlier.
When I asked my boyfriend about it, he said he didn't recognize the number, although it had a similar area code to his ex's number. He showed me his phone and seemed genuinely upset and confused about what was happening.
With my permission, he reached out to his ex to ask if it was her. Instead, he got an angry response from her current boyfriend. My boyfriend stayed calm, de-escalated the situation, and we thought that was the end of it.
However, yesterday, his ex contacted his mom and asked her to tell my boyfriend not to message her anymore.
Now I'm confused about what actually happened. Was this likely his ex, someone pretending to be her, or just someone trying to cause drama? My boyfriend has been open with me throughout all of this, but the situation still feels strange.
Should we just ignore it and move on, or is there something else we should do?
TL;DR: A girl claiming to be my boyfriend's ex called me, said she loved him, and claimed he was with her when I knew he wasn't. When my boyfriend contacted his ex to ask about it, her boyfriend responded angrily. Later, the ex told his mom to tell him not to contact her. I'm confused about what happened and whether we should ignore it or do something about it.
