TL;DR many fanservice-y designs are uncreative as hell and resort to the most basic ways to sexualize a character when there are so many more creative and (imo) more appealing ways to make a character attractive

obligatory edit: i’m not calling the designs themselves lazy, i’m specifically referring to the way they are sexualized/made to be sexy in an uncreative way. i lowkey went offtopic but it’s 11:30 pm and i ain’t rewriting this rn

to clarify, i’m not mad at sexy designs because they’re for gooners, or fanservice or whatnot. fanservice isn’t necessarily bad and be honest, who doesn’t like looking at sexy/attractive designs?

but what bothers me is how uncreative many of these ‘sexy’ designs are. particularly focusing on women, a vast majority of these designs all boil down to “look! big booba, big ass, short skirt, lots of skin ooga booga!” sometimes i wonder how people never get tired of gooning to the exact same shit. there is no creativity, no innovation. sure you can have different types of sexy characters, like one is cutesy and one is goth and one is a dommy mommy. but at the end of the day they all follow the exact same “goonable character” formula.

again, a character being for fanservice isn’t the bad part. i just want to see a sexy character portrayed in ways other than the most easy, lazy way possible. there is no subtlety. the whole design screams “look at me and how sexy i am! now goon!” it insists upon itself. and the thing is these characters will often just be made sexy with no regard for their personality which lessens their appeal even more in my eyes.

this is why FOR ME, designs that aren’t meant to be ‘sexy’ are often the most attractive. beauty is in the eye of the beholder as they say, and i can appreciate the parts of the design that i find attractive that aren’t made to appeal to me in that kind of sense. having the design and character synergize with each other also makes the character feel more human and not what is essentially a sex object; it’s in the same way you find the traits of a real person attractive.

and when the designs are outright made to be sexy like i said, switch it up. you can make the character normally but maybe have their dress drape over their curves, or have their tight pants hug their form—in other words make them dress how a real person would dress to look or feel sexy. you can integrate it into their character and give them a distinct type of appeal other than just.. sexy, that aligns with their personality.

My camera was pretty bad so i decided to draw it to the best of my ability. this fellow got stuck in the space between my window and my screen window for a bit, i think after rain? i’m pretty sure this is NOT an ant because ants don’t look like this, but i can’t find any matches on google either. wings were also not colored (white/transparent). (Philippines)

The eyes might have also just been the shape of its head but the lighting was really bad and i couldn’t see it too clearly

not only is it non-inclusive, it’s just unnecessary. “his or her” uses 3 syllables and 8 letters while “they” is a SINGLE word that only uses 4. it makes sentences clunkier and is a just so weird in general, like you’re gonna go through all these hoops just to avoid acknowledging the existence of nonbinary people? “they” isn’t even strictly for nonbinary people; it can be used when you don’t know a person’s gender or just want to refer to someone in an impersonal way. TL;DR just use “they” for the love of god. i come from a fairly conservative country so i see this everywhere and it’s driving me nuts, i just had to get this out

EDIT: okay i know the picture i used isn’t the best example, ignore that, it’s not part of my main point. obviously my problem isn’t related to stuff like that with couples; i am referring to the usage of “his/her” or “his or her” in a sentence to refer to a non-specified person. Hello, fairly new player (as in I don’t have many characters,) I just finished Plantpromptu (An-an Lee still needs to be raised + Euphoria tho) and i’m in need of another team that can actually… clear stuff (As much as I like Igor he just isn’t doing enough damage, but maybe I just need to actually level him and his teammates 💀 except I don’t wanna raise characters I’ll probably never use outside this team)

Enigma is coming next patch and I really like him, but I’m not sure if the other core Dynamo members (Charon/Brume) are coming soon. Due to my small roster—the only chars I’ve pulled are for Impromptu aside from Igor and Liang Yue—I don’t have a good place to start in teambuilding so I’ll basically have to start from scratch. I know Liang Yue’s euphoria is good but I missed Cheng Heguang and I’m not sure what teammates to get for her.

My psychubes are in 3rd image; anyone below Sotheby and A Knight are just a bunch of mostly useless characters (5 stars and below, but you can still ask to see them if needed.) Any suggestions help, thx
