Help! Driving from Azusa to DTLA, what should I know?

For context I’ve been licensed for about 3 years now, but I don’t go on the freeway often. I usually stick to driving around my suburban town, and have gone as far north as Pasadena twice, and as far south to Convoy in San Diego once. I am very much a small town driver and I am very worried about not being prepared for it. I drive a smaller car.

I have a fair bit of driving anxiety mostly when I drive in places or areas that I don’t know very well. I’m very comfortable driving around my area, and comfortable going up through to Ontario and down to Miramar as I’ve been to both areas enough times(both about ~50 miles to my area). Though I understand driving around there is very different to DTLA.

I do plan on doing practice routes when I can. I would prefer simpler routes that minimize freeway changes.

I’d be going from Azusa to either Union Station or Los Angeles Convention Center in July 1-5, as well as going back. I don’t live in Azusa, so I’m very much not used to big city driving.

- What are some things to keep in mind?
- Is there any alternative routes that would be recommended?
- Is Apple Maps or Google Maps better for driving to and from?
- How can I limit stress while driving around LA?
- What freeways / exits should I be wary of?
- What times should I avoid leaving Azusa and Los Angeles by?
- Are there unspoken rules?
- What’s the best way to practice?

Thank you in advance.

Fun movies that will have friends pay attention to it?

Hi all! My friends, although I love them, I cannot for the life of me get a successful movie night going for all of them (there’s around 7-10+ of us, all adults). I put in all the effort to make and get a wide array of snacks, drinks, and sweet treats intended for movie night. But when it comes to the actual movie watching, it is SO HARD to get them all to pay attention. They’re on their phones or having loud side conversations that aren’t even about the movie. I have them pick a movie and shuffle all their choices around in a hat to pick out at random too!

Every time without fail though there’s a movie on and I see only a few of them paying attention to it. How do people do movie nights like this?! Is it because of the environment?? I’m fine with them talking about the movie or making comments about it in the moment but, it’s not even that!

I’d absolutely love to watch a beautiful movie sweet and light hearted but packed with meaning, but what’s the point if no one’s gonna be bothered to watch it..?

So, please give me your best stupid fun movies that will absolutely grab the people’s attention and incite fun conversation about or during the movie. A movie that you don’t need to focus on too much to grasp, but it will make you WANT to grasp it. Preferably ones that can cater to a wider demographic and not solely dudebro or chick flick. Thank you!!!
