The Healey administration is planning to use our state's $8.5 million Affirming Health Care Trust Fund, which comes from our tax dollars, to cover the full cost of gender affirming treatments like hormone therapy for minors on MassHealth and CHIP. This kicks in once the federal government stops Medicaid and CHIP funding for those services for anyone under 18 starting this fall.
In 2024 MassHealth spent about $3.6 million on this care for members 18 and under.

A Friday morning Boston City Council hearing on the 30% water bill discount for seniors and disabled residents ran with one councilor in the room.
That councilor was District 2 Councilor Ed Flynn, the chair. Immediately after the hearing, several of his colleagues turned up for a Dominican flag raising ceremony at the same City Hall.
The hearing was Docket #0932, "Order for a hearing to discuss discounts for seniors and persons with disabilities by the Boston Water and Sewer Commission." It was scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Friday, Aug. 14, in the Iannella Chamber on the fifth floor of Boston City Hall. Chair: District 2 Councilor Ed Flynn, who filed the docket alongside District 4 Councilor Brian Worrell.
The hearing proceeded with Flynn on the dais and no other councilors visibly participating.

“What we need is a fair and objective look at what happened so that another bad deal doesn’t come at the expense of Massachusetts taxpayers,” said MassFiscal Executive Director Paul Craney. “The AG is using her office, and taxpayer resources, to try to persuade the judge in the case. This will only taint the process even more considering the AG’s obvious conflicts in the matter.”
