He’s transitioning from an operations manager role to product manager, he currently working with a Marketing agency company from past 5yrs. In the last 2 years the agency developed their own marketing and analysis proprietary software for the clients and he is handling every aspect of it since then, to understand more about the product management he also completed a course from hellopm, this course helped in understanding the concepts and AI part of PM, which he now actively applies into his current product management. Now he wants to switch completely into product management role, but not getting any call backs. He’s applying through Naukri portal, LinkedIn, sending cold mails to recruiters or job posters he finds on LinkedIn. Also applying through startup job portals like well found and cutshort io. So want to understand where he’s lacking or is there any other approach that needs to be followed. Looking for guidance.

TBH, I’m a bit frustrated and could really use some guidance from people who’ve been in my shoes or know how this works.
I have 6.5 years of experience as a Database Developer, mostly in PL/SQL. I’ve worked at two service-based companies and then moved to a Big 4, which felt like a step up at the time. But somewhere along the way I realized that staying in this lane wasn’t going to get me where I wanted to be. So I’ve been putting in the effort to upskill in Data Engineering currently studying Apache airflow, Apache NiFi, Google cloud, because I genuinely want to grow in career, not just switch jobs for money.
The companies I’m trying to get into are places like Barclays, Fidelity, S&P Global, IQVIA, Mastercard, Citi, Airtel, VOIS, Deutsche Telekom , Wells Fargo and other GCC and PBC , l’ve applied to several of them for Oracle PLSQL or Database Developer roles some through referrals, some directly. And every single time, even when my experience lines up almost perfectly with what they’re asking for, it’s either a rejection or complete silence. I have also tried messaging HR on LinkedIn or mailing them if I find their emails on any LinkedIn post but so far no response.

I don’t think my resume is the issue since I do get responses from startups and MNCs, and I tailor every application carefully. So something else is going on and I genuinely can’t figure out what. I get that if I am not able to perform in interviews it’s on me but not to be seen by companies is something.

If you’ve made this jump from a service-based background into a GCC or PBC, or if you work in one of these companies and have seen what actually works, I’d really love to hear from you. Here’s what’s been on my mind:

1. How did you actually get in and what made the difference for you?
2. Does not having domain experience (finance, pharma, telecom) count against you even when your technical profile fits?
3. Is going through a recruitment agency worth trying for these kinds of companies?
4. Is there something I’m fundamentally missing that isn’t obvious from the outside?
   I’m not looking for a magic answer just some honest perspective from people who’ve been there.
