2016 CX-5 AWD Parts DIY
So I got some bad news from a mechanic shop today. I’ve got a bad front driver steering knuckle (easy enough to replace) and my rear differential bushings need replaced. I’m lucky enough to be roommates with a diesel mechanic (hence the easy enough above) and he charges a more than fair labor rate if I buy parts. I found out Mazda’s official guidance is basically to replace the whole rear subframe as they don’t individually sell bushings. This is unfortunately out of my price range currently. So I’m considering buying bushings aftermarket and the superpro bushings look like what I’m leaning towards. Any guidance from anyone on this on what level of job this is? I’d also rather just scrap my car of Theseus (replaced both front control arms, left tie rod, and master brake cylinder in the last 6 months) and get a new one but I can’t really afford that either presently. Any specific tools I would need to make sure we have? Superpro linked me a pretty expensive press pull bushing kit but I’m wondering if that’s a common tool for mechanics?
Thanks, I’m starting to ramble at this point so if there’s questions I can answer them directly. If there is a better sub to place this in I’d love to be directed to it, kinda freaking out as I would have no other way to get to work.
