Sega CD 1 Freezes at 1st Stage Boot
Hi all, I bid on a genesis 1 & Sega cd 1 at auction. I'm pretty handy with repairs but no expert. The CD 1 boots to the 1st stage (moon and earth, no animation) but that's it. It's not a connection problem or a genesis problem (I've tried a separate one). ONE time it booted to second stage and said "Push Reset to Eject Disc Tray" when I swapped power supplies. It froze when I hit reset. That was a total coincidence as both supplies are putting out proper voltage. 240p test suite passes everything but WORD RAM. It hangs on the PCM RAM and Sound tests at waiting for reply from Sega CD. The green ready light is always lit. The access light usually doesn't light at all.
I opened it up and did find clear fluid around some of the caps. I've got a cap kit on the way. C43 in particular had lots of what I assume was electrolytic fluid. Any recommendations or schematics on what I'm checking for traces? I have a digital microscope. What are my odds of success here?
Thanks
Update 1: Found a rotted via at C42.
Update 2: Jumpered the via to the component and it boots. Disc drive won't open now.
Update 3: Pulled disc drive apart and replaced the stretched belt with the same size o-ring
Played some music CDs and played Mortal Kombat. Fixed, just needs to be recapped
