Does this sub' discuss simulations that are grounded in a non-physical "sub"-reality?

Most simulation hypotheses I came across assume that if this reality is a simulation then the "sub"-reality that this simulation is grounded in is governed by its own set of physical laws. But what about sub-realities that have no such laws? Like one that is created, dreamed by an omnipotent will? Or one that is pure chaos, where things happen only by pure chance? Is the possibility of such sub-realities discussed here, alongside laws-governed ones?

Welcome to r/SequentIndividualism, a community dedicated to exploring Sequential Individualism.

What is Sequential Individualism?

Sequential Individualism is the idea that every conscious life is experienced by the same fundamental observer, but each life is experienced separately, through one perspective at a time.

Right now, you experience one particular body, personality, set of memories, and point of view. Other conscious beings appear completely separate because you cannot access their thoughts or memories. Sequential Individualism proposes that beneath these individual differences, the subject experiencing consciousness may ultimately be the same.

Sequential Individualism is closely related to r/OpenIndividualism. Both ideas hold that consciousness is not truly separate between individuals. The main difference is that Sequential Individualism says the same consciousness experiences each life separately through a sequence, even though that sequence can overlap physical time.

Sequential Individualism put simply:

You do not experience every life at once. You experience every life one at a time.

Under this theory, the person you call “you” is one individual perspective within a much larger sequence of conscious experiences.

What does “sequential” mean?

“Sequential” means that consciousness experiences individual perspectives separately rather than as one giant combined mind.

You experience your current life as yourself. Another conscious life is experienced entirely from that being’s perspective, with its own personality, memories, senses, and circumstances.

The sequence does not necessarily have to follow ordinary chronological time. Whether it does, and what determines the order, are open questions for discussion.

Why does this matter?

If the same underlying observer experiences every conscious life, then the happiness and suffering of others are not merely events happening to completely unrelated strangers.

The way you treat another conscious being ultimately becomes part of your own total experience of existence, seen from the receiving side.

This raises important questions about:

1. Consciousness and personal identity

2. Death and the continuation of experience

3. Memory and what makes someone the same person

4. Ethics, justice, compassion, and responsibility

5. Human and animal consciousness

6. Artificial intelligence and synthetic minds

7. Whether time determines the sequence

What belongs here?

This community welcomes:

  1. Arguments supporting Sequential Individualism

  2. Serious objections and counterarguments

  3. Questions about consciousness and identity

  4. Thought experiments

  5. Scientific research related to consciousness

  6. Ethical and practical implications

  7. Personal reflections

  8. Related books, movies, games, and stories

  9. Comparisons with other philosophical or spiritual theories

You do not have to believe in Sequential Individualism to participate.

This is a place to examine the idea honestly, not a religion, cult, or gathering where the moderator announces that disagreement is merely your previous incarnation being difficult.

Skepticism is encouraged. Personal attacks and lazy mockery are not.

Introduce yourself

Introduce yourself below and answer one or more of these questions if ypu would like:

Do you think consciousness is fundamentally individual or shared?

What is your strongest argument for or against Sequential Individualism?

Would believing that you might experience every conscious life change how you treat others?

Which beings do you think are conscious enough to be part of the sequence?

Please read the community rules before participating.

Welcome to the sequence.

Is the game required to run on low graphics to run well and smooth-ish on Steam Deck?

And if so, does it then look ugly like Total War: Warhammer on low?

Thanks.

Color channels for some racial transformations

Two new color channels in the faction creation screen. One for minor transformations and the other for major transformations. With what changes color being parts of the texture added by the transformation.

Affected minor transformations and the parts of them that takes the custom color:

  • Yaka's Feline Infusion, ears and tail (currently locked on black)
  • Astral Blood, hair (currently locked on black)
  • Animal Kinship, fur (currently locked on dark brown)
  • Draconic Vitality, scales (currently locked on vomit green)
  • Leafskin, skin (currently locked on green)
  • Reveler's Heart, fur (currently locked on black)

Idem for major transformations:

  • Spider's Embrace, spider's body (currently locked on black)
  • Ysariel's Fallen Form, lower part of the wings (currently locked on white)
  • Geomantic Crystallization, crystals (currently locked on light yellow)
  • Naga Transformation, scales (currently locked on green)
  • Gaia's Chosen, leaves (currently locked on green)
  • Draconian Transformation, scales (currently locked on vomit green)
  • Demonkin, wings (currently locked on red) – only applies when the visuals are deactivated and only the wings are visible!
  • Angelic Transformation, wings (currently locked on gold) – only applies when the visuals are deactivated and only the wings are visible!

Make the game remember "hidden" transformations for all ruler types...

... so that their "hidden-ness" (the state of the transformation visuals not appearing) remains in future game sessions (including those played by the AI).

For example, I play as a dragon/giant/eldritch/vampire ruler and during my last game session with that ruler that resulted in its (re-)ascension I transformed my main race into wights and deactivated the visuals of that transformation. As the game currently works, in the next game session featuring this ruler (played by myself or the AI) the hidding of the wight transformation should not be recalled by the game (like it does for champion and wizard rulers – to whom racial transformations personally apply) and therefore when the wight transformation gets applied in that new session the visuals of that transformation stand visible. And so what I'm proposing here is to get the game to remember the hidden-ness of the wight transformation for ALL ruler types, so that in future game sessions with the ruler the visuals of the wight transformation are deactivated by default. Ensuring that the vision the player had for the race persists even when that race is played by the AI.

Is minor transformations being visible on an ascended ruler with Fractured Transformation a feature or a bug?

I didn't expect minor transformations from previous games with that ruler to be visible after ascending that ruler with the Fractured Transformation on him. Like, during the game, the Fractured Transformation disabled the visuals of all the minor transformation, but after ascending my ruler the minor transformations were visible again (which in this case is unfortunate).

Also, Triumh, please allow us to activate/deactivate the visuals of transformations of ascended rulers 🙏

What unit type should Kitsune be?

Were she to ever be added to the game ( 🤞), what unit type should Kitsune be?

On the one hand, she fits the Fey type as a trickstery spirit. On the other hand, she is often (but not always) described/depicted as ill-intended and fiendish in folklore and media.

Also, what tier should she be, if any (i.e., ruler type)? And what unit class?

Personally, I think Kitsune should be both Fey (+4 Spirit protection, -4 Blight, Fey Guile) and Accursed Fiend (+2 Fire protection, +2 Frost, -4 Lightning, Accursed Body, Burning immunity), making her resist Radiant damages (Spirit + Fire) whilst she would be vulnerable to Death damage (Blight + Frost). Which is not only thematic (she is a master of illusion that burns her victims with haunting desire and is unimpressed by the passion of fanaticism, being passion herself – which also means that death, the end of desire, is her undoing), but would make her fill a currently empty niche as far as resistances are concerned.

Also, I think that she should inflict Fire + Frost damage, as too few units in the game currently do (only Accursed Fiends, I believe).

As far as abilities go, Kitsune would have the Temptress' Kiss of Seduction and a passive that applies Clinging Mist on herself whenever she attacks or uses an ability, making her quite safe from attacks when getting into melee (including eventual attacks from her enthralled, berserked victim). And she would have Slip Away.

Thus, she would be a T4 Magic Fighter unit that specializes in disruption and survival, relying on the unit she seduced to deal much of the damage whilst herself surviving (alongside the Thrilling Domination bond with her victim) by making herself hard to hit by stacking Clinging Mist on herself (whilst not spreading mist clouds on the battlefield, which tends to kill synergy with some non-Fey builds) – which through Fey Guile also buffs her. The obvious counter here being Immune to Psychology and high status effect resistance.

And since she would be a high tier Magic Fighter, there would be the possibility to stack spell-granting enchantment on her, effectively turning her into a mini-hero (which with each rank gained above Legendary making her even more survivable – and thus even more effective).

The new size of the fairies feels wrong

'Love the new update and what has been shown about the DLC so far.

I only have one complain: The fairies having a bigger (human) size feels wrong. Now, I get that this has been done so that the sprites don't evolve into something that looks smaller, but that just make fairies not look like fairies anymore. Like, isn't a defining feature of fairies that they are small in size?

Unfortunately I so far couldn't come up with a suggestion of how to solve this (the obvious solution of making sprites smaller instead apparently doesn't work for technical reasons). But I was thinking that "we" (at least those that are also bothered by that change) could brainstorm to arrive at a solution for this.

AoW4 on Steamdeck 64GB?

Hi,

Does the game run well on Steamdeck 64GB? Any inconvenient you noticed?

I'm mostly worried about the game getting laggy (particularly on large maps with both Underground and Umbral Abyss active) and the graphics not looking too good.

Thanks and have a nice day/evening!
