Planning on a bathroom renovation in an existing apartment in inner Melbourne and would love some advice.

The bathroom is approx. 2.1m x 1.6m It currently has an old shower combo, outdated vanity, old toilet, and some low-level grout issues that came up after I’d moved in

I’d like to update the bathroom cosmetically and:

• Replace the shower with a walk-in shower with a frameless shower screen

• Install a new toilet and vanity

• Add shelving/storage next the toilet

• Properly address any moisture/waterproofing issues

• Update mirror

My budget is around $10k and ideally I’d like the work completed within about a month. One initial quote came back at $17k and around 5 weeks, which felt high given the bathroom isn’t huge but I’m a first-time renovators so I may be underestimating what’s involved?

I’ve also received a quote just to rebuild the shower (4.9k) and just to regrout the shower (1.8k) I’d like to know if I was to just rebuild the shower & update the tile within the shower recess, could I re-tile the rest of the bathroom at a later date?

Any tips to maximise space in the bathroom? I’m on a first floor apartment.

How hard is it to demolish, waterproof and rebuild a shower and retile a bathroom on your own?

I have two doors that swing inwards in my bedroom. Door to the left opens into my walk in robe & door to the right opens to the ensuite. I want to maximise space in bathroom which I will be renovating so I want to install a barn door. However then the walk in robe door would be a traditional door (opening inwards) looking for design advice here as it’s my first renovation. Thinking maybe I remove the door to the walk in robe completely.

What is this tiled box next to the toilet & could I remove it? Also is it possible to remove a left hand SKU toilet & replace with a back waste toilet in an apartment? Thanks in advance. P.s be nice I’m a girl who knows nothing about plumbing 😇
