Idea of getting out of Texas Heat

We live in Texas. We have had a drought, so we can't get our small sailboat out. We are retired, and I had an odd idea. What if we bought a 30-36foot sailboat and kept it on the Great Lakes? We could use it as a floating summer cottage. What is the costs of getting the boat pulled every year and stored? Is this a feasible idea? What do yall think?

Americana

This is an awesome album. It's got some not-so-good songs but some really great ones. Jesus Chariot is amazing. Oh Susanna and Clementine are great. This was the first reunion album with crazy horse in 9 years. They recorded Psychedelic Pill shortly after.

Should we get a Sienna?

We are retired, and we do farm sits as a fun side gig. We drive all over the country hauling 2 big dogs, bikes, dog food etc. We are in a Rav4 hybrid now, but it is cramped. We were looking for another vehicle, and the Sienna popped up. Is this a good vehicle for hauling 2 big dogs plus assorted gear? We test drove one and really liked it. We think we could put the dogs between the front seats and slide the middle seats all the way back, with lots of cargo room in the way back. We will need to add a hitch for a bike rack.

Capri 18 companionway trim

My old 18 has badly weathered trim on the companionway. Catalans direct makes replacements but they show them not available. I would like to replace the wood with starboard. Does anyone know a source for starboard milling?

My sailing journey

I started in the 80’s sealing a C-scow then a Hobie 16. Loved the 16 and my wife and I would camp out on the tramp on the lake beach.
Then went to a Catalina 22 when we had kids for overnights. Then we moved up to a Catalina 25.
We started chartering boats in the BVI’s, San Juan islands, etc.
I got a good deal on a Catalina 250 that lead to a 320 on a local lake. I loved that boat with all of its systems and electronics.
Now we have moved to a lake house for retirement and got a 250 for our lift in the back yard. It was fully instrumented with lots of systems for a smaller boat. The lake goes up and down and we seem to be having flash droughts that keep us from launching the boat.
So, I sold the 250 and found a good deal on a Capri 18 with a shoal draft keel. It’s a simple easy to sail boat. It has no instruments, no radio and no systems except a tiny battery for the lights. I love this boat. I sail it a lot.

And for me at this time of my life, simplicity and ease of use trumps a fancy boat. I can still charter a boat for fun.
