I was looking at my Target app after seeing the latest standalone vinyl reissues are coming out soon and saw the album “Basement Tracks”. Looks like an A.I. invention or bad bootleg to me.
For those of us not wanting/needing Official Release Series Vol. 6 in its entirety - 'tis a good week.
Hey there, what would a signed copy of Prairie Wind on CD likely fetch? I love Neil, but I don’t necessarily love CDs, so I thought I’d ask here.
I’m very slowly writing a review for every Neil Young song as a hobby and I just finished reviewing every song on Harvest. When I finished I got an interesting idea, what could an alternate version of Harvest look like? Harvest is a good album, although it’s never been one of my favourites. Yet if you listen to the live albums from 1971-1973 and all the outtakes recorded during this time, Neil was sitting on a wealth of material.
Now I know Harvest is beloved, and rightfully so, but it’s not going anywhere. Anyway, here’s my attempt at an alternate tracklist for Harvest:
Out on the Weekend
Harvest
Love in Mind (Live at Royce Hall)
Heart of Gold
Old Man
Bad Fog of Loneliness
Journey Through the Past (Live at Massey Hall)
The Needle and the Damage Done
Soldier
Words (Between the Lines of Age)
I gave this a listen this morning and while it’s interesting, I think the flow and cohesion isn't quite there. After Bad Fog of Loneliness, the whole country side of the album is just gone, it’s a bit of a stark difference. It also only comes in at 33 minutes, so there’s space for at least another song on there. It's almost like Neil Young knows his own music better than I do.
I don’t know if anyone else wastes their free time doing this, but this is just a testament to how much I love Neil’s music! I tried to go for a mellower, more piano driven album with a big finish. Let me know if you have any ideas for this or have your own alternate versions of Neil’s albums.
We’ve recently started a band together and decided to cover this song by Neil Young. Check it out if you want to! If you do, let us know what you think :)
Title says it all. Love the song and was wondering if there’s more to the jazz song at the outro.
I'm trying to find provenance for this old .mp3 I've had in my collection for maybe 20 years now — so it wouldn't be from a recent release or collection. Sound quality isn't super clean, so I suspect it might be from a bootleg. Any Neil Young fans familiar with this particular recording? I'd love to track down the full concert it's from.
Thanks!
Totally off the top of my head, and some can be up to interpretation compared to others which are more obvious
On The Way Home (about Stephen)
Only Love Can break your Heart (about Nash)
Ambulance Blues (CSN)
Thrasher (CSN)
The Old Homestead (CSN)
Hippie Dream (about Crosby)
Cocaine Eyes (about Stephen)
No More (various people, Stills and Crosby references likely)
One of these Days (CSN)
I’m the Ocean (CSN)
Buffalo Springfield Again (need I say anything, but obviously about Stephen)
Two Old Friends (very likely to be about Stephen)
Bandit (some say it could reference Crosby)
I have been a fan of Neil Young for a few years and he’s still my favorite songwriter. Used to listen to him every day.
Recently discovered Steve Winwood and the various bands he’s been in.
Wondering if anyone else on this subreddit a fan of Winwood and Spencer Davis Group/Traffic/Blind Faith?
Have Young and Winwood ever been on stage together?
