NVIDIA DGX Spark v Surface Laptop Ultra

If someone were choosing between NVIDIA DGX Spark at home connected via Tailscale versus Surface Laptop Ultra.

(The same question could be put comparing any soon to release equivalent laptop versus equivalent desktop/mini PC. I'm not focussing overly on those specific machines, but they are good examples)

Why pick the Surface Laptop Ultra? Beyond the convenience of having the device physically with you, in my mind it's heavier, likely to be limited by thermals and not convenient for leaving on for long periods working away on models.

Yes it would be cool to be 100% offline and on the one system, but a good internet connection to a remote setup, the only downside is the need to be online which is increasingly a low hurdle.

What do people think? Is such a laptop worth it? Does connecting remotely create such a disadvantage?

I realise the full details of the Surface Laptop Ultra have not been released but from what I'm understanding it's essentially a surface laptop 7/8, USB C on both sides and a bit thicker and heavier with a 128GB Spark inside. If anyone thinks it would be materially different to that I'd love to know your thoughts.

NFC Lock and Pixel/Wearos Watch

Can anyone share if you can use a pixel or wearos watch NFC function on the NFC keypad? I am not interested in bluetooth or data unlocking. The Nuki helpdesk has been less than informative

thanks

Surface Laptop 8 - Intel v Snapdragon

Curious to know people's opinions

Ignoring price and ignoring compatibility/emulation issues. This post isn't about that, those arguments are well discussed elsewhere and can distract from other comparisons.

Imagine it's free and everything is compatible and native without emulation.

For a given spec, say the 32GB or 64 GB RAM version

Which would you prefer? And why?

---edit

Thanks for the responses.

I guess what I'm really asking is this. If compatibility or budget isn't a consideration, what are the reasons to buy the Intel variant?

I'm not seeing any good reasons to buy Intel if compatibility and budget are not relevant. Is there any additional argument to buy Intel in that scenario? I'd love to be proven wrong.

----edit 2

Thanks everyone. It's been fascinating. It really seems like the only reason to pick Intel is if there is a compelling reason for your specific use case. If there isn't, then snapdragon seems to be preferred and recommended.

That doesn't put Intel in a great place moving forward as ARM is likely to only get better in future.

Cheapest UPS for DXP8800

The compatibility list for the DXP8800 isn't great when I looked

Is anyone able to point me to the cheapest UPS compatible with the DXP8800 that I can rely on. So long as it works, it doesn't need to do anything beyond the most basic essentials.

Thanks 🙏

Surface Laptop 8 - Intel v Snapdragon

The headline figures show that the Intel is 50 TOPS v Snapdragon with 80 TOPS.

However further digging suggests Intel can get a further 122 TOPS from the GPU (Total 172 TOPS)

I cant find any equivalent specs on the Snapdragon GPU

  1. Does anyone know how many additional TOPS the Snapdragon GPU can provice?

  2. Am I comparing apples with apples? I know that the NPU is more power efficient, but if I am plugged in more than I am not then the Intel version appears to be more attractive in this regard

Thanks

---- edit

Maybe to put the question more simply, does anyone know how many TOPS the snapdragon GPU can provide stand alone?
