What do you think the 3rd trial death videos would be like for the alive prisoners?
Here are my thoughts!
YUNO: I think they could’ve easily been in the same situation as Mahiru, I could see the video be Mahiru watching Yuno die, or maybe Yuno dies first while Mahiru is still dying from her injuries, then she dies next to her body (ouch). I don’t know how watching Yuno die would affect Mahiru’s character arc since she’s so fixated on love, maybe it would let her realize just how terrible her boyfriend being dead is, creating an even greater guilt? she was much more fixated on the concept of not being able to love anymore compared to guilt of her boyfriends death, probably because she never fully understood her killing blow?
FUUTA: this one would be really interesting! Imagine if Fuuta got a double guilty, suffered more extreme injuries in trial 2, indoctrinated into the cult but died of his injuries because of Amane’s cult rules. This would be so interesting to see how Amane would mask her feelings towards this, how her guilt and sadness would show up against her faith! It would be a really interesting video for sure.
MUU: The writers talked about how Muu has a low survival rate, so I imagine she would be in a similar state of Mahiru and die from a Kotoko or John attack (if he went on a rampage and Kotoko wasn’t there to trade blows with him, if she got a T1 guilty), either from her injuries or the attack itself. Since we already saw Mahiru die from her injuries, it would be devastating to see Mikoto attack her, then Haruka finds her bleeding out. It would be a demonstration of overkill to everyone who called her out and made her into a “villainous queen”. It would also be interesting to see the aftermath of Mikoto dealing with that murder since he knew the victim personally and knows it was John.
KAZUI: He’s really tough, so I imagine his only way of death being a suicide via a double guilty vote. I’d imagine his video would be alone, not with any other characters, since they would stop him. Maybe Shidou is banging on his door while he makes preparations to end his own life? (ouch). I don’t know how this would affect other characters, it would make some of them quite sad for sure but I don’t know if it would affect their arcs or not, it’s hard to say.
AMANE: she feels like a character who’s really unlikely to die because of how Kotoko just straight up ignored her in the T2 attacks. There’s various speculation like Kotoko not wanting to harm kids, the writers being scared to injure a kid, overusing injured states of prisoners, etc. I personally feel it’s because they wanted a guilty vote to be possible in trial 2, whereas if she was injured, it would be a landslide innocent compared to the voting battle that was T2. With that aside, if there were fewer guilty prisoners in T2, maybe she could’ve sustained bad injuries, going to a death scene in T3 where she continues to deny help from Shidou, dying with her beliefs. A fitting end to her character.
MIKOTO: I just don’t see a world where he dies. John is easily able to protect him from attacks, and the gold mine that would be writing about how John killed someone he personally knew in the prison and how that affects Mikoto would be incredible. Even if John kills someone in T2, it would probably still be primarily john in the seat until T2 innocent, where Mikoto takes over, or a T2 guilty where Mikoto is potentially erased and John takes over? This isn’t out of bias for Mikoto, he’s probably my least favorite character, but I think this plot would be incredibly interesting!
KOTOKO: I either see her committing suicide after a double guilty or a John rampage killing her. The serial killer that only kotoko knows about killing her would be kind of funny 💀. I think it would be more interesting to see a double guilty suicide. She looked ready to give up at the end of the DRAMA music video, I’d imagine she’d be in that depressive drained state of submitting to the fact that she can’t change the world. It would be a really interesting monologue, but I don’t know what characters would be present. Maybe Mahiru, since the writers said Mahiru and Kotoko could’ve ended up as friends in a route. I’d imagine Mahiru’s not there for the actual death since she would stop Kotoko, or maybe Mahiru also received a double guilty and doesn’t have the energy or heart to stop Kotoko?
