The blue triangle floated to the window surface, bearing the words: "Not before the thing in the hallway finds you."

Instead of a dead animal, I found a dozen severed human tongues carefully nailed to the wooden studs, and a note saying “You're next, you liar”.

Then I carefully set the book back on their coffee table and slipped back into the hallway closet, just as I heard their key turning in the front door.
