Regarding my dream
Greetings, comrades. Many of you told me that I should investigate my dream further, so this marks the first day of my investigation.
The first thing I needed to figure out was which District the dream took place in. Based on the architecture, I knew it had to be somewhere in the southeastern part of the City. After thinking it through for a while, I managed to narrow it down. It couldn’t have been District 20, since there was color in my dream. It also couldn’t have been District 21. I was born and raised there, so I’d recognize it immediately if it were. District 10 was also out of the question, considering I currently live there and haven’t seen anything remotely similar. By process of elimination, that left me with District 19, S Corp. Which is where I am right now.
I should mention that I had never been to this District before, yet despite that, I wasn’t lost, everything looked almost exactly like it did in my dream, so I could move around with ease. The first thing I did was search for the shop where the student and the teacher were hiding. It took me a couple of hours, but eventually I found it.
The place was abandoned. Honestly, I should’ve expected that. From what I understood in the dream, the Big Sister of the Middle was the one keeping the place running, or at least that’s the conclusion I came to. Without her around anymore, nobody probably bothered taking care of the shop. Looking on the bright side, it made getting inside easy I just had to break a window.
Once I got in, I quickly noticed the place had already been almost completely looted, not exactly surprising. These are the Backstreets after all.
I headed upstairs hoping the second floor would be in better condition than the first, and thankfully it was. The beds were still there, and I could even spot a few personal belongings scattered around the room. It wasn’t exactly like in the dream, but close enough. Judging by the condition of the place, some Rats had probably been using it as a shelter recently, meaning I was trespassing. Funny enough, that gave me a weird sense of nostalgia. Back in U Corp, I used to do this kind of thing all the time. The only difference is, that the people I robbed back then were actually worth robbing.
I shouldn’t talk too much shit about Rats though, they are just desperate people trying to survive however they can and I used to live the same way myself before the Liu accepted me...I’m getting sidetracked.
Getting back on track, I searched the room properly, and the only thing I found worth mentioning was a diary belonging to one of the Rats. The most interesting part was the final pages. The guy’s name was Yi Bang-gwa, and according to his entries, he’d been having the same nightmare every night for the past month in the dream, he’s trapped somewhere dark with no way to defend himself. He can hear something crawling across the walls around him, but whatever it is moves too damn fast to be seen clearly. Every single time, it ends the same way: the thing attacks him from behind and kills him before he can even react.
Yi Bang-gwa wrote that he was getting sick of the nightmares, and that the lack of sleep was slowly driving him insane. In the last page he wrote that he couldn’t take it anymore and that he was going to search for the monster from his dreams himself. Unfortunately, the dude never wrote where he planned to go.
That’s all I managed to find that day. By the time I finished reading the diary, it was already getting late, so I decided to look for somewhere safe to spend the night before the Sweepers came out. That’s how I ended up here, taking shelter in the home of an old woman who offered me a place to stay in exchange for helping her deal with a group of thugs extorting her.
I’ll handle that tomorrow. Shouldn’t be too difficult.
Anyway, that marks the end of the first day of my investigation
