Google Earth July 3rd Update

Google Earth July 3rd Update

Good to see Google Earth's aerial imagery getting updated more often. It's a bit surprising to finally see some changes, especially compared to the last snapshot from earlier this year, when it was clear they hadn't touched the property in months.

So, what do we have here? Well, it looks like the First Aid station is finally gone. They also seem to have finished tearing down what remained of Looney Tunes: the playground, Barnstormers, Crazy Bus, and the Balloons are all gone.

Shockingly, Pepe is still there somehow... Why? No clue. I doubt it'll survive much longer, though.

The carousel, which was still only partially demolished in the previous imagery, is now completely gone as well.

We already knew most of this had been removed, but it's nice to finally have proper aerial confirmation. There's not much left now.

The mermaids bathroom is still standing for some reason, though. Why on earth would they keep that for so long?

Also, don't ask me why, but Earth didn't index the February–March snapshot for some reason. Weird.

On top of that, they've removed the 2023 imagery as well. I know they're currently trying to migrate the desktop app over to the browser version, so it might be the reason. Hopefully they'll restore the missing imagery at some point, and it isn't actually lost to time.

At least the earlier snapshot is documented on this sub, so I'm really glad I made that post when I had the chance.

Latest Photos of the Park - Still Deteriorating

Uploaded two days ago. The author didn't specify when they were taken, but they were probably shot fairly recently. Once again, nothing has been done, and everything left behind is still sitting there deteriorating.

Dizzy Lizzy sign recreation in Roblox

Another one of these things, I can't lie, I had quite a good time building it. It's animated, just like IRL.

Warning: flashing lights!

Interactive Park Map from sfno.com Restored

Back in 2003, the unofficial sfno.com website featured an interactive park map with clickable pop-ups for every attraction, displaying photos, menus, prices, height restrictions, and other information. Sometime after 2004, it was quietly replaced with a static image for reasons unknown.

For years, I assumed it was impossible to restore because the necessary files had never been archived. Recently, though, I discovered that the original Java applet (.jar) had actually survived on the Internet Archive. After downloading the applet, assets, and the HTML, I tried running it locally, only to realize it was simply too old to work in any modern browser.

So I decided to try something a little crazy: recreate the applet in JavaScript.

With a lot of help from AI (my JavaScript knowledge is basically nonexistent) and thanks to the original program being fairly simple, I managed to recreate the map's functionality almost exactly. Every pop-up behaves like it did on the original site, and so far I haven't run into any major bugs.

I honestly didn't expect this to work, but here we are. There are still a few things I'd like to polish before releasing it, but I plan to share a download link once it's ready.

In the meantime, if there's a specific attraction or pop-up you'd like to see, let me know, and I'll post it. I'll be away for a few days, so the release will probably have to wait a week or two.

I'd love to hear what you think!

Vanished Snapshot - Is it worth contacting Archive.org for help?

I've been researching an old website from about twenty years ago. One of its features was an interactive map that ran as a Java applet (thankfully, the .jar file itself was archived).

Since modern browsers could no longer run it, I decided to recreate the project in JavaScript to see if I could bring the map back to life.

Besides the script and all the assets, I also needed the original HTML file, since it contained most of the data displayed by the map. That's where I ran into a problem: the final archived snapshot before the map was discontinued appears to have disappeared.

I still have the original Wayback Machine URL bookmarked, including the exact timestamp of that snapshot, so I know it definitely existed and was accessible at one point. It has only recently become unavailable; in January it was still working.

At first glance, this might not seem like a big deal because there's another snapshot from about two months earlier. However, I know the map received several updates during those final months, so having the latest version is actually pretty important for what I'm trying to restore.

I understand that Internet Archive stores an enormous amount of data, so occasional corruption or missing snapshots are probably inevitable. My question is: is it worth contacting them about something this niche? Is there any realistic chance they could recover or restore the missing snapshot, or is it more likely that it's simply gone for good? Has anyone had a missing snapshot reappear after a temporary issue?

I-10 Sign Recreation in Roblox

Built this out of pure boredom in about half an hour. I always liked the design of this sign, especially the original Jazzland look. It's very basic, nothing over the top, with no interior details, and, obviously, it doesn't actually work.

Does anyone recognize the organ grinder melody that Mardi Gras Menagerie used to play?

Does anyone know what organ grinder tune Mardi Gras Menagerie used to play?

Most carousels I've seen usually feature rearranged traditional folk songs, so I imagined this wouldn't be the exception. I doubt it's unique to this installation, especially considering it's another Chance clone.

Looking for old recordings/commercial breaks from Disney Channel Spain & Disney XD (2014-2016).

Hi everyone!

Firstly, I'm aware this is an odd post compared to the average topic that tends to be treated in the sub. Sorry in advance if I may be breaking any rules; it's not my intention. It's simply a desperate call for help.

A couple of friends and I are working on a preservation project to recover a lost television dub from Spain. We are looking for full raw broadcast blocks from Disney Channel Spain or Disney XD Spain recorded during these specific windows: Summer 2014, Summer 2015, or Winter-Spring 2016.

The content we are hunting down is the localized Spanish dub of a physical game show that aired on Disney Channel Spain, despite the fact it's not technically an original Disney production. We are currently missing 11 episodes. Since I understand the chances of finding someone here with the show we're looking for are near impossible, we decided it would be more efficient to search for raw material instead.

If any European or international TV data hoarder is reading this, it would be a massive help if you could share old TV archives or continuously recorded blocks from those specific years to check if the show is hidden in between the files.

Of course, this is strictly for a non-profit preservation project. Please, if you may have something, let me know via DM or through a comment. Again, sorry if this kind of post isn't allowed here. I'll understand if the mods decide to take it down; I won't blame you. Still, thanks for your time!

[REQ] Disney Channel Spain / Disney XD - Full TV Raw Broadcast Blocks (2014-2016)

Hi everyone,

A couple of friends and I are working on an audiovisual preservation project to recover a lost television dub from Spain (Castilian Spanish). We are looking for full raw broadcast blocks, satellite transport streams (.ts), or multiplexed recordings from Disney Channel Spain or Disney XD Spain recorded during these specific windows:

  • Summer 2014: June, July, August, and September.
  • Summer 2015: Late July, August, and September.
  • Spring 2016: January, February, March, and April.

The content we are hunting down is the localized Spanish dub of a physical game show ("Splatalot!" Season 2), which is currently missing 11 episodes. Since I understand the chances of finding someone here who recorded and curated those episodes individually, especially from such a niche show in a rather small country, are near impossible, we decided it would be more efficient to search for raw material.

Any old TV archives, old hard drive backups, or continuously recorded blocks from those specific years and channels by Spanish, European, or any international TV data hoarders would be a massive help to check if the show is hidden in between the files. I have access to a few of the premiere dates and reruns of those episodes, if you're interested.

Of course, this is strictly for a non-profit preservation project. If anyone happens to have old TV archives, old PVR backups, or satellite dumps from those said years and channels, please let me know either through comments or DMs.

Safe sharing via Archive.org or BitTorrent is preferred. Thank you so much for your time and for helping protect a small part of television history!

Southern Star Amusement Concept Art (Not mine)

I downloaded this last year from a now-deleted forum on Wayback Machine. It dates back to the late 2000s, when Rogers (Southern Star Amusement) was still trying to purchase the property. I don't remember whether it was an official layout shared by him or something put together by a fan. I'm leaning toward the latter.

Either way, it's a fun little find, and I thought it was worth sharing. The quality could definitely be better.

Vanishing sixflagsneworleans.com photos from the Wayback Machine

Just a small note that caught my attention.

A week or two ago, I accidentally discovered that several images and videos that were previously available through the Wayback Machine from sixflagsneworleans.com are now broken or missing. Considering the enormous amount of data the Internet Archive has to manage, it's not exactly shocking, but it's still concerning.

A few examples:

I'm sure there are more, but these are just the ones I noticed after a quick look around. Feel free to check the links yourselves if you're skeptical.

More than anything, this serves as a reminder that even the Wayback Machine shouldn't be treated as a perfect archive. It's an incredible tool, but it's always best to keep multiple copies and rely on more than one source whenever possible. If you ever get the chance to download something important, even if it's already archived, do it. You never know when it might disappear.

Of course, these files may not be gone forever. Sometimes the Wayback Machine temporarily misses files during crawls, and they can reappear later. Other times, files become corrupted or inaccessible. Only time will tell.

Frog Hopper

Alfa's only addition to the park in three seasons. Can't complain; I think we can all agree this was the best ride there. 😏

Has anyone ever managed to get hold of a copy of this magazine?

I've always been really curious about their Jazzland article and any photos or information it might contain. I've spent years searching for a scanned copy online, or even someone willing to sell one, but I've had no luck so far.

Does anyone happen to have a copy and would be willing to share a few photos of the park's section? I'd really appreciate it.

Ancient Zydeco Scream 3D model

I found these on an old website called bunk.dhs.org, which has since been removed. The material appears to date from 2002 or earlier. Unfortunately, the site reportedly featured rather more interesting content, including construction photos of the park from 1999, but none of those were archived. The only images I was able to recover are these photos of what seems to be a fairly detailed 3D model of Zydeco Scream. Beyond these two shots, I have no additional information about it.
