I am an international student planning to join UNC Charlotte in Fall 2026 as a Ph.D. student in Engineering. I am expecting to receive funding through a GRA/GTA position, but I would like to understand the actual expenses that I should plan for.

I am married and will be bringing my spouse and two dependents with me. I would like to ask current international Ph.D. students (especially those with families):

• How much do you typically pay per year for health insurance, including dependents?
• Does the GRA/GTA funding or tuition support cover only the student, or are there any benefits for dependents?
• Approximately how much do you pay out-of-pocket each year for tuition, university fees, insurance, and other mandatory expenses after funding?
• Are there any additional costs for international students with dependents that I should be aware of?

I would really appreciate any information from students who are in a similar situation. Thank you!
