In search of iClickers...

TL;DR If anyone still has their iClickers from the college days and is willing to donate them or sell it for like $1 PLEASE LET ME KNOW. I'm a public school teacher trying to collect a set. Ask your friends!

Hi!! I'm currently a high school teacher and am trying to acquire a set of iClickers (at a low low cost) for my classroom of about 25. I have students with learning disabilities and my honors kids in the same class, and it's typically advantageous in group work but hard to see day-to-day progress without hand grading 120 exit tickets! This will be helpful to answer anonymously to the class and quickly sort data. Most don't use them after graduation and I do know you could make 15 bucks on FB Marketplace, but I'm hoping some people are willing to part with them to invest in a good cause :) TIA!

Freshman student!

Hey guys, so I need a little bit of advice I wanted to at UNCC because I wanted the full college experience but I only live like 20 minutes away fr campus. I applied for a bunch of single dorms at the start of March and when they announced housing, I was still partnered up with a roommate which was fine and then I reached out to my roommate they were very uncomfortable with the fact that I’m bi and so now I’m at the point where I just want to stay home and pay the fee of leaving or should I try to get a roommate change ? Idk any advice would be appreciated

Incoming Accounting Major – Do I actually need a TI-83/84 or similar calculator often?

Hi everyone,

I’m an incoming accounting major and I had a quick question about calculators for college classes.

Do I need a TI-83 / TI-84 (or any similar graphing calculator) regularly for accounting courses? Or is it mostly basic math / financial calculator work?

I currently have a MacBook and I don’t own a TI calculator yet. I’m trying to figure out if I actually need to buy one or if I can just use free alternatives (like online calculators or apps) for most classes.

Also, for those already in accounting:

  • Which classes actually require a calculator the most?
  • Is a financial calculator more useful than a graphing calculator?
  • Would I be fine starting without one and buying later if needed?

Thanks in advance!

First Year Trans Student

Hi Charlotte! I’m a first year student coming in this summer to live on campus. So far, the process has been fairly easy. However, with housing, I’m currently assigned a 2x4 with three other guys. And I’m openly trans…

I’ve spoken to the roommate I’m sharing a room with, and they are also uncomfortable rooming with me. I understand that gender affirming housing has been done away with, but I don’t have much choice due to being required to live on campus the first year.

So my main question is, does anybody have advice on what to do? I’m honestly overwhelmed by this whole situation, so anything would be helpful.

Would you live a 15min drive from campus?

We're considering opening our home up to student renters but not sure if anyone would live there. We're about 15 min drive from campus. Is that too far?

Also, if you may need a room next year, let me know!

Second-Half of Summer Classes

I’m taking a class during the second half of the summer semester; it was listed as starting today (6/29) but it still hasn’t shown up on my canvas. I’ve never taken summer classes before, does anyone know if that’s normal?

Calc 2 Summer course

I’m looking into taking calc 2 over the summer (it kicked my butt last semester and I unfortunately just barely fell into D range) but I’m also out of state at the moment and all the 5 options are labeled as Lecture with locations in person. Most the rate my professor stuff says attendance isn’t mandatory but that doesn’t mean much for tests. What do I do? I need the class for next semester prerequisites and there’s really only 1 day left for the add/drop period.

Best Laptop Business/Finance Major

Hello,

My son is an incoming freshmen at Belk going the business/finance/analytics route, what are the best laptops? They have one option through the niner store and I have looked up so many different ones but want to ensure he is starting off right! Would like to keep it at 2k or under.

Private Bathrooms & Showers

EDIT: I will live in a suite next semester, so I won't have my own bathroom & shower, since I'll be sharing with 3 other people. Do the dorms you live in have any communal bathrooms or showers besides the one included in your suite? Am I allowed to go to other dorms on campus to use their communal bathrooms & showers? Also, are there any single-stalled bathrooms around campus? Sometimes I just want peace when taking care of business.

UNC Charlotte or NCSU for Cybersecurity?

Hey all, I am stuck between NCSU's Computer Science with Cyber Security concentration and UNC Charlotte's Cyber Security major. I really like State but I am unsure of how well this major would be compared to Charlotte's major as I was told by my computer science teacher that Charlotte has a much better Cyber Security program than State's, and that State's was pretty lacking. However, if I do State's program then I won't have to do about 33 credits. Whereas for Charlotte I may only get out of a couple classes.

Which one would be better for furthering my Cybersecurity passion and career?

Could someone give me a bit of insight on the two please?

Thanks in advance!
