Hi all,

My kid is a senior in NC. They received direct admission to UNC Charlotte and Western Carolina through NC College Connect and have claimed their spots there. They want to study Computer Science or something close to it, such as Data Science. Their stats are a 35 ACT, a 3.792 unweighted GPA and a 4.272 weighted GPA. Neither of us has been through the college application process before, and hence we have several questions.

1. Major selection: The NC College Connect portal only let them pick one major, and they chose Computer Science. If they are not admitted to CS, will they be considered for another major, or placed as undeclared? Is CS actually capacity-limited or gated at either school?

2. ACT scores: Should they send their ACT scores to these schools, even though admission came through NC College Connect without them? Would the scores help with anything, such as major placement, honors programs or scholarships?

3. Common App: Does it help to also apply through the Common App to UNC Charlotte, or is the NC College Connect claim all they need?

4. Other schools: They plan to claim spots at ECU and App State during College Application Week. Does it make sense to do that when they’ve already claimed UNC Charlotte? We aren’t sure whether there’s any downside, or any benefit beyond having backups.

just wondering if anyone who lives in an apartment-style dorm on campus keeps smelling something burnt in the air? obviously not marijuana, that’s always wafting in the air. i’m not sure what, but at one point, it smelled so horribly burnt that i went to see if anyone was using the stove, because that has its own burning scent, but no one was. i expressed the concern to my suitemates in our group chat, but none of them responded. should i be worried?

Fired Will Healy thinking things could be better and have just gotten incrementally worse every year. Was hard to imagine it could get worse than things were with Biff Poggi. But the team might actually win zero games this year. And what's confusing is Charlotte hired a coach in Tim Albin who appeared to be pretty good at Ohio. What gives?

If you read the title, I think that I'm being ghosted by someone I recently befriended.

I'm a transfer student coming in from a community college, so this is my first time being on a university campus with so many people. The transition hasn't been too hard since I am used to the college/university workload but I'm having trouble making friends. I thought I had made a friend in one of my business courses but I might be wrong?

For about three weeks, we were close, she even invited me to eat lunch with her friends at Atkins. I really felt like we clicked! But she started sitting away from me, taking forever ( a day or so ) to respond to my texts, and not being as talkative.

I feel hurt because it feels like I might have said to done something weird, and every time I try to chat with her, her responses are quick, quiet, and curt. I've seen her friends around campus and they talk to me like normal.

Am I being ghosted by a friend or am I just being hyperemotional?

I spent most of college counting down until graduation. Now I’ve graduated, landed an engineering job, and life is genuinely going well… but somehow I miss UNCC 😭
I miss walking around campus, seeing familiar faces, random gaps between classes, and even some people I never thought I’d miss.
And okay, maybe there’s one engineering guy I wouldn’t mind randomly running into again 😂
I absolutely do NOT want another exam, but I’d love to experience one random normal day at UNCC again. Any other recent grads feel this way?

Hello! I just bombed my physics 2 midterm two weeks ago, and I was wondering if anyone had any tips on the best way to study and learn for this class. I have Prof Leilabady, and I honestly wasn’t that great at PHYS2101, so I am really struggling in 2102. Any tips?
