Can MIPDaL realistically help a non-EU lawyer build a career in Europe?

Hi everyone,

I’d really appreciate some honest advice.

I’m a 36-year-old lawyer from Tibet, currently living in Hungary and studying English while preparing for an LL.M./master’s in Europe.

My background is a bit unusual. I worked for around 9 years in the legal field, including criminal, civil, and administrative law. I also worked with cultural institutions in Tibet-related publishing and museums, dealing with copyright, publishing, licensing, and legal review for cultural content.

Over time, I realized I’m more interested in the intersection of law, culture, technology, intellectual property, and digital regulation than traditional litigation. I’m especially interested in copyright, cultural heritage protection, AI/data governance, and digital policy.

I recently received a conditional offer for the Erasmus Mundus MIPDaL (Master in Intellectual Property and Data Law) program. My concern is employability.

Realistically speaking:

As a non-EU citizen

Mid-30s

English is improving but not native-level

Prior experience mostly in China

No European legal qualification yet

Would MIPDaL realistically help someone like me build a career in Europe?

I’m not necessarily aiming for a big international law firm. I’d be happy working in:

cultural institutions / museums / publishing

copyright or licensing work

NGOs or policy institutions

compliance / privacy / digital regulation

legal or policy roles connected to culture and technology

I know Europe is difficult for non-EU lawyers, so I’m trying to be realistic rather than overly optimistic.

Has anyone here studied MIPDaL, IP law, data law, or transitioned into Europe from a non-EU legal background in their 30s?

Would love honest opinions.
