Is there growth in in-house

Hi I'm going into my fourth year in a shitty law college. I think i wanna pursue the in house counsel positions. is there any growth prospects in joining in house fresh from law school? or is it better to try out the firms first and the progress to companies?

Tiring corporate life

I am a girl in my early 20s. Not more than a decade ego, having a job was more like going against society, having freedom etc. I am not saying that it is not so now. I am grateful for the fact that I have this privilege to study and earn, which many Indian girls don't have.

Having said that, the idea in this economy, one cannot survive without husband and wife both working give me chills. I also want to live that slow paced life, getting ready, staying at relatives, cooking. Please do not take it otherwise that I want to be trad wife or something like that. But also wanted to live a life that may be I will never get to live.

Non-NLU + first gen lawyer. How do people actually get Tier 1 internships?

I'm a 3rd law student from a government law college (non-NLU; disappointing placement cell) and I'm also going to be a first-generation lawyer.

I recently interned at a Tier 2 law firm and now I'm trying to figure out how to break into Tier 1 (or even better Tier 2) firms for my next internships.

The thing is, everyone around me keeps saying that most of these internships happen through referrals or family connections, and that firms barely even look at cold emails or applications. As someone with no legal background or connections, it's honestly a bit discouraging.

So I wanted to ask people who've actually done it:

  1. Did you get in through a cold email or did networking/referrals make the difference?

  2. Do firms actually read applications from random students?

  3. If you were in my shoes, what would you focus on right now to maximize your chances?

  4. Lastly, how to actually back internships/ PPO/ Connections/ Mentorships.

Would love to hear from the reddit community. Just trying to understand what's realistic and what isn't.

Thanks!

Need a laptop for law school

Hi everyone! I'm joining law school this year and need to buy my first laptop (budget ₹60–70k).

I've shortlisted:

•ASUS Vivobook 14 (Core Ultra 5 225H, 16GB/512GB)

•Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 5 (16GB/512GB)

•Acer Aspire Go 14 (Core Ultra 5, 16GB/512GB)

Which one would you recommend for a law student and why? I'm looking for something reliable that will last 5 years.

Open to other suggestions too!

I have always applied for 1 month internships previously and I am confused how to draft mail for such 5-6 months internships and what all should I add in my email. If anyone can help me in guiding,it would genuinely be a nice help.

Confused about making notes

I'm in my 4th year now, and I'm finally thinking of making proper notes for CLAT PG.

My confusion is this: I want to start preparing notes for subjects like Constitutional Law from now, but I'm also planning to join an online coaching batch next year for additional guidance. Obviously, they'll also provide material and ask us to make notes.

So, what should I do? Should I put in the effort to make notes twice? My concern is that if I prepare handwritten notes now, I won't have enough space to add the additional concepts and points from the coaching classes later.

I don't want to waste my time cuz obviously I would have to study for my semester exams too.

Litigation or corporate

Hi everyone! I have a question as a first-generation lawyer. Which career path should I choose: litigation or corporate law?

I worked in digital marketing before starting law school, and now I'm confused about which direction to take. If you could share your advice or experiences, I'd really appreciate it. 😕

Law student, Humanities background, 18, and financially clueless. Help?

Hey everyone,
I’m 18, fresh out of a humanities background, and currently pursuing law. I’ve quickly realized that wanting financial independence sounds highly empowering until you actually look at the Indian job market for first-year students.
I want to start earning my own money and build a life outside of family support, but I also want to avoid the toxic "hustle culture" that expects me to work 14 hours a day for peanuts. Coming from humanities, I know how to read, analyze, and write, but I don't know how to turn that into a reliable monthly credit alert just yet.
For anyone who has navigated the Indian law school grind or figured out how to make money at 18:
->What are some realistic, elegant side gigs for a first-year law student that don't involve sketchy data-entry scams?
->Are content writing, online tutoring, or preparing notes for competitive exams actually viable, or am I romanticizing them?
->How do you handle the massive reading load of law school without burning out before you even reach internships?
Give me your most brutally honest, practical advice. Thanks in advance!

24M First Gen Law Graduate : Is a drop year for LLM a good way to reset a weak CV ?

I am a bit confused as to what should I do further. Judiciary is definitely not an option for me, neither is Civil Services. As of now, what I've thought is of taking a drop year and appearing in LLM entrance exams to secure an admission in any good college, then do one or two internships (I know internships are difficult to manage while doing an LLM), and ultimately try to secure a good job (in a law firm hopefully). Will this be a good thing to do ?

The other thing I'll do is appear for APO exams and regulatory bodies exams (SEBI etc.) but these exams don't happen regularly and even if they happen, the vacancies are quite less. I'll still prepare for them as I'm already preparing for LLM entrance exams and the syllabus overlaps.

What I need is more clarity on whether doing LLM considering the situation I'm in right now is the best choice or do I have any other better options that I'm unaware of ?

Do many law graduates end up changing careers?

I’m in my final year of LL.B., and lately I’ve been wondering how many law graduates actually end up leaving the profession altogether.

From the outside, it feels like the legal field is becoming increasingly difficult for first-generation lawyers. Litigation seems to rely heavily on networking or family connections, the starting salaries are often very low, and many legal jobs expect prior experience, which makes it hard to even get your foot in the door.

Sometimes I wonder if law is one of those degrees where a lot of people eventually move into completely different careers. Is that actually true?
