Affordable apartments near USF for a transfer nursing student?

Hi everyone! I’m planning to transfer to USF as a nursing student and I’m looking for an affordable apartment.
My budget is around $1,000–$2,000/month, and I’m specifically looking for an apartment, not a studio. I’m open to living a little farther from campus if the commute is reasonable.

What areas/neighborhoods near USF would you recommend for finding apartments in this price range? I’d also appreciate any advice on areas that are safe and convenient for a student.
Thank you! :)

Security camera recommendations/ bright flood lights

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for recommendations for the best outdoor security cameras with excellent video quality, clear night vision, and very bright motion-activated floodlights.

For the past several nights, a group of teenagers or young adults has been roaming around my house. They’ve already egged my home before, and I’ve also seen them standing around my cars and looking inside them. I’m really worried that something more serious could happen if this continues.

I’ve already reported everything to the police, but I want to install cameras that can clearly capture faces, clothing, and any identifying details if they come back. My biggest priority is keeping my family safe. At this point, I’m willing to spend whatever it takes to protect my home and loved ones.

If anyone has recommendations for outdoor cameras with outstanding night vision, bright floodlights, reliable motion detection, and continuous recording, I’d really appreciate your advice. Also, if anyone else has noticed suspicious activity like this in the neighborhood, please let me know. Thank you so much, and everyone stay safe.

How can I become an Operating Room Assistant?

Hi everyone!!

I’m currently a Health Science major in college, and my goal is to work in the operating room. I’m looking for advice from anyone who works as an Operating Room Assistant (ORA) or in perioperative services on how I can become a stronger candidate.

Right now, I’m volunteering at Kaiser Permanente as a hospital ambassador and wheelchair transporter, where I help transport patients, provide directions, and interact with patients and their families throughout the hospital.

I also recently started volunteering in the Surgery/Recovery Department at Shriners Children’s, and it’s made me even more interested in pursuing a career in the operating room.

Some of my volunteer responsibilities include:

Assisting with patient transport to and from surgery and recovery.

Preparing and cleaning gurneys and hospital beds.

Restocking care unit stations and maintaining supplies.

Organizing linens and anesthesia towels.

Delivering blood, urine, tissue, and other patient specimens to the laboratory.

Helping with basic clerical tasks and delivering materials
between departments.

Assisting Central Sterile with tasks as needed.

Interacting professionally with patients and families while maintaining confidentiality.

Being in the surgery and recovery environment has confirmed that this is the field I want to pursue, and I’m trying to gain as much hands-on experience as possible while I’m still a student.

I have a few questions:
What’s the best path to becoming an Operating Room Assistant?
Are there any certifications (BLS, sterile processing, etc.) that would make me a stronger applicant?
What skills or experiences do hiring managers look for?
Is there anything else I can do while volunteering to stand out?
Would it be appropriate to ask to shadow an OR Assistant or other members of the surgical team?

I’d really appreciate hearing about your experiences or any advice you have. Thanks in advance!

Help!!!! Sac State Class Says Online but Also In Person?

I’m registering for classes at Sac State and I’m confused.

When I add one of my classes to my Shopping Cart, it says “Web Online” for the class meetings. But when I check my Sac State Schedule, it shows the class as in person with a classroom listed. Has this happened to anyone else? Which one is actually correct? Is it a hybrid class, or is this just an error in the registration system? I’m worried about registering for the wrong format. Any advice would be appreciated!

Volunteering as an undergraduate

Hey guys! I am a third year at a university and I’m going to start my volunteering with Kaiser next month! I’ll be an ambassador and hoping to get some healthcare experience! I’m planning to go into the nursing field! I was just wondering how the volunteer program works and if there’s any tips I should do to help others out! Also, is it possible for me to get a job through them later on in the future. Thank you!!

Hospital setting job

Hey guys!!

I’m a health science major in my 3rd year and I’m trying to figure out the best hospital jobs I can apply for while I’m in school. My goal is to gain experience, build my resume for nursing school, and just get my foot in the healthcare field overall.

I recently heard about becoming an EKG tech and it sounded really interesting, but honestly I don’t even know where to start. Do I need a certification first? Is it hard to get hired with no experience? Are there other entry-level hospital jobs you guys would recommend instead?

Right now I’m honestly overwhelmed because I’m on the verge of getting fired from my current job after missing work while caring for my younger brother who’s fighting cancer. I’ve been helping take care of him during treatments and appointments, and balancing that with school and work has been extremely hard. This whole experience has honestly pushed me even more toward nursing because I’ve seen firsthand how much healthcare workers can impact families during the worst moments of their lives.

I’m trying to rebuild financially and professionally while staying focused on school, and I really want to start working in a hospital environment instead of feeling stuck where I am now.
