World Migratory bird day embroidery contest - 2026

I don’t represent Environment for the Americas but I do want to share that they are holding an embroidery contest which will conclude later this September.

You don’t have to be a bird nerd to enter! They have lots of information and resources available if you’re curious about your local migratory birds.

Where are you getting pearl snap supplies?

I don’t mind ordering online but strongly prefer not to use places like Amazon. I would also prefer to avoid plastic snaps, but I’m cool with metal!

It seems like there’s a couple different types and I’m not sure if there’s a difference in terms of ease of use? I don’t know if I can’t trust myself to aim well enough with a hammer though.

This is for a light weight floral dress that is currently styled more like a wrap dress or robe with how the waist tie closure is. I’m sure I could manage hand sewing buttons and button holes, but I really like snaps which will give me more confidence in wearing it securely! Especially with the sizing of my top half.

Does the material the fabric is made out of matter when selecting these things? Any other tips are appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

Where should I start with Kia Sportage engine sourcing?

Hey all, I am trying to figure out options after my daily driver, 2017 Kia sportage, went through the carbon build up issue and burned through 1 & 3 cylinders. Happened at 150600 miles with the warranty ending at 150k. Technically, she still “runs” but she’s currently parked because it is rough and I’m not trying to make anything worse.

This is a sentimental rig, selling it or trading it is not an option I can emotionally handle right now. I want to keep this one long long long term, and I understand it would not be worth it for most folks. This vehicle took me and my soul dog on her last adventures, and I can’t let that go right now. So please do not suggest that route.

I have no idea how to go about sourcing an engine that won’t end up with the same fatalities I’m currently dealing with. And I know engine remove and replacements will naturally be expensive, but I won’t know at what point I’m getting screwed over.

I am a veteran so my instinct would be to trust and start with veteran owned shops or pick and pull yards? I don’t have a lot of money, but I make too much to qualify for support programs. I’m just trying to assemble some kind of plan that I can save for.

If anyone has any advice for me, I’m all ears. I just want to get back on the road again, not being able to go for a decent hike has been so hard on me.

Thanks in advance
