My Ps2 won’t play The Grinch Ps1 game disc, even though it reads it

I ordered the Grinch for Ps1 online and when I put the disc in my PS2 it reads it and then goes to a black screen then returns to menu. As far as I know, Ps2 console are supposed to be able to play Ps1 games, I really wanted to play this game and check it out. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

My Ps2 won’t play The Grinch Ps1, reads disc but won’t play it

My PlayStation 2 won’t play The Grinch Ps1, I order this game online and really wanted to check it out. It reads the disc and then goes to a black screen and then returns to the menu after a little bit of time. Never had a problem with this console before, any help would be greatly appreciated
