the end?

Grandfather has been sleeping for two full days. Has not moved at all from the position hes been in. When people are like this do they wake up again? Or do they just pass peacefully in that sleep? He’s in hospice and has been given morphine and other medicine

update: he passed a few minutes after posting this

how long?

doctor said my grandpa is in his final days. how true is this when they say it? he has dementia. he is either awake and agitated and hallucinating, or he’s sleeping. sometimes he eats and other times he doesn’t.

we want to make arrangements to take him to his house in Mexico because he has always said that that is what he wants. we are not sure if we should though because he does need someone with him 24/7 because when he’s awake he usually hurts himself by trying to get out of bed.

Medication not helping with agitation

hi all. as of 2 days ago, my grandpa is in hospice. since monday evening he’s been restless, agitated, and combative. and he has hallucinations all the time. he has dementia and is blind. none of the medicine he has been give have helped. at all. he’s in a memory care facility but my family and i visit him every day, mostly all day, and we deal with him being that way. it’s a horrible thing to watch and it’s so exhausting to take care of him when he is like that. he had his foot amputated so he cant walk but when he gets this way he wants to get out of bed and ends up falling. they have mats on the floor so he doesn’t hurt himself. he also has a pee catheter that he tries to pull and he hurts himself too.

why is it that medicine doesn’t work for him? is this like terminal agitation?? or what is it? we don’t know what to do anymore.

hello. my grandpa is 84yrs old and was told he has dementia with agitation 5 months ago. this happened while he was dealing with gangrene and got his foot amputated. he’s been having so many hallucinations in the past 5 months. he cant walk due to his amputation and he’s also completely blind. when he has hallucinations he tries to get out of bed and he hurts himself because he falls and he’s just crawling around. he just forgets about his amputation, he was never ok mentally to process what happened. he used to be ok with being on a wheelchair but this past month he’s been sliding off of it because he thinks he’s in bed or something. so now he’s just bed ridden and currently at the hospital due to some other issues. when he’s not at the hospital, he’s at a memory care facility and sometimes we are called to help calm him down because nothing works.

when he has hallucinations he gets combative and just starts kicking and hitting and nothing seems to calm him down. sometimes he thinks he’s underwater or stuck in a hole. we don’t know how to help him when he gets that way. since he’s blind he can’t see he’s currently in bed and at the hospital and when we try to tell him where he is he says we are wrong and starts being rude.

he takes seroquel, depakote, lorazepam and nothing seems to help at all. he’s in hospice now and he’s like this most days. we want him to feel comfortable and not in distress. what’s the best way to go about calming him down when he gets this way???
