Trouble getting Oversteer Wheelmanager working properly

Hey everyone,

As title says, I have trouble getting Oversteer wheel manager working properly on my PC with PikaOS. On my OpenSuse Tumbleweed it runs without issues, while it isn't even a gaming distro. Also my pedals and stickshift are not recognized at all.

  • My specifications are:
  • Processors: 12 × AMD Ryzen 5 8600G w/ Radeon 760M Graphics
  • Memory: 32 GiB of RAM (30.5 GiB usable)
  • Graphics Processor 1: AMD Radeon RX 9060 XT
  • Graphics Processor 2: AMD Radeon 760M Graphics
  • Manufacturer: Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd.
  • Product Name: B650 AORUS ELITE AX V2
  • Logitech G29 SE Steering Wheel + pedals + stick shift
  • PXN CB1 controllerbox
  • Dualsense controller (PS5)
  • Dual booting Opensuse Tumbleweed and PikaOS on different harddrives

I alos have another issue with one of my controllers. I have PXN CB-1 controller box and while on OpenSuse Tumbleweed it works out of the box, the only buttons that get recognized when I want to use it in PikaOS are the pre-set ESC and ENTER butten. the others just don't work.

In EuroTruck Simulator 2 The PXN box gets 3 different notifcation all three don't work. My DualSens controller also gets multiple options to choose from, whil one just works. It is confusing.

Anybody here who can help me solve this? I'd like PikaOS to be my main gaming OS, but it is not working this way.

Games not depending on my G29 SE and the PXN-CB1 are just working awesome.

This week I got familiar with Faugus Launcher. It is so easy to use!

I didn't expect it, but wow, how easy it is made to install games. I have some old games lying around on CD/DVD and to get them working, especially when it was an ISO, was always an hassle and more than often it would not work at all.

I have managed to get Black & White (had it still lying around and had downloaded the fan patch a while back to get a smoother experience) and managed to get it working in about 10 minutes (did something wrong at first) and it just works you know. Have been playing it for the last two hours.

Moorhuhnjagd also. While Moorhuhnjagd is just an .exe file, it was ocercomplicated to get it tio execute from Lutris. This one was the one I started with last week. I am enjoying (retro) gaming even more now!

Anybody have any nice tips and tricks? Let me know please, thank you.

Surprised!!!

Honestly? I have been in OpenSuse Tumbleweed for two years now on both desktop and laptop. Recently picked up on posts about PikaOS and also in reactions to posts it was mentioned quite regularly. I got curious. My laptop got a new SSD and is my test device for all OS related stuf, regardless the OS (with exception of Windows, that's a road with a dead end).

So yesterday I put my new M.2 SSD of 500GB in my HP 445 G8 with 32GB RAM and began to install Pika OS. From start to finish I had to read and look very carefully, because the whole installation proces went quite a bit different from what I am used to, but nonetheless it went very smoothly.

The first surprise? My graphics were amazing. In stead of dull and dark (OpenSuse Tumbleweed, Linux Mint and CachyOS) it was bright and sharp. I don't know what the actually difference is, but for my laptop it seems to be the best fit!

Also it feels light and quick. The future will tell if PikaOS will be staying or set aside again, but for now I am very surprised and enthusiastic.

For my main device I'll keep it on Tumbleweed for now, because Tumbleweed is awesome too and it runs incredibly good on it, but maybe after a year of testing my Laptop with PikaOS? I might be tempted to switch!

Almost 2,5 years now on Tumbleweed and it has been a good time in general

As title say, I am almost 2,5 years on OpenSuse Tumbleweed now. The only major hick ups I had were a couple of weeks ago when I wanted to re install Tumbleweed on a new hard drive and although the install media checked up good, I had a very unstable OS with a lot of permission issues. (I used default systemd btw then). And 1,5 years ago I had, due to my own doing, my system brake down on me.

After a week of searching and exploring, trial and error I went with GRUB2 EFI again and after that? It was a smooth ride again! Haven't had any troubles whatsoever since.

Tumbleweed was chosen after a lot of distro hopping and after about 8 months of hopping I decide to go back to my roots, where it all started for me on my journey with Linux in the late '90s/early 2000's, with OpenSuse (I got a CD from my father back then, because I wanted a challenge and something new).

Although I learned a lot during my distro hopping and it also gave me alternatives if a system of mine (or someone elses) would not run that good on OpenSuse, I would have alternatives that are also good enough. For instance, MX Linux and CachyOS are also nice OS's to use, but definitively not my favorite.

The way Tumbleweed clicks with me like it is nice. Over the years I did some things via terminal, but not extensive, if possible I would most often use a GUI. Now GUI has becoming more common over the years and funnily enough, I am starting to use the terminal more often for a lot of things. There can be done so much more and gradually I am beginning to understand certain processes and functions.

The last couple of months I have even dug deeper into everything. Fortunately I have a laptop to do some experimental stuff on so when I mess up big time, my main system on my desktop will not fail me :).

So over a period of 2,5 years, I had 2 times an issue, the first was self inflicted, the second time was a couple of weeks back (but read that some updates during that week were also not that great in general, so...). I must say that is a very good score, especially while distro hopping certain distros had collapsed on me several times. Before Distro hopping I often used Mint and about two years before making the definite switch to Linux, I also used Fedora KDE on a laptop next to my Windows desktop PC. Every major update was a disaster with the exception of the first one. It was easier and quicker to re install then do that upgrade. That is the only reason I did not want Fedora on my main desktop ever again and on a laptop it would not be my first choice either, which is a pity, because Fedora is quite a good system in itself.

The things I do on my desktop at the moment are CAD drawing (2D and 3D), office applications, getting familiar with video editing (if someone knows a good application for that, I am struggling with this a bit), web browsing of course, and gaming. Gaming via Steam and Heroic Launcher and some games via Lutris. I always loved to game, but switching to Linux made me love it even more. I now truly love gaming and I must say Tumbleweed is a good one to game on.

Really, I thank all of those who participated in making and keeping up OpenSuse. They are doing a great job and I really appreciate it.

Others here using OpenSuse Tumbleweed as their prefered Gaming distro?

Hey everyone,

After switching completely over to Linux in the end 2023, I started out with Bazzite. Although it is a nice looking and quite decent distro it lacked some things I needed. Full acces to the system to change things if I wanted. Also the amount of applications via the software manager was mweh...

Tried several others like MX Linux, Fedora, Nobora, Cachy OS and it did not fit me. So I went back to where it all started for me in the early 2000's and installed OpenSuse, to be specific, Tumbleweed.

I am very surprised it is rarely mentioned to use it for that purpose, because it just runs good.

The past week I had to change my harddrive, so I did a new install and I must say, after two years being very content with Tumbleweed, I lost it after a couple of days. Even installed Bazzite again untill I got a clear thought to not go with the current default bootloader, systemd, but the one I always used, GRUB2. No more hickups, no crashes and it is a very smooth ride again.

BTW: I still find the looks of Bazzite very nice, but the imutable nature is something I can' t work with. If one can work with that, it is a hell of an awesome system. But it is slow and being used to the smooth and fast system with Tumbleweed, makes it annoying I must say.

Today I am going to setup my Logitec G29 in combination with PXN CB-1 controllerbox for some Eurotruck and things like that. Installing Oversteer for the G29 and giving it its permissions in the system is easy as can be.

The games I play are a great variety and in Tumbleweed my games run a bit smoother and less startup time. Thereby using it primarily as an allround desktop PC fits better with Tumbleweed.

My system is all AMD btw.
