Has anyone noticed high or inconsistent pricing at the Salvation Army thrift store near Jerome Ave/North St? Has anyone else noticed unusually high or inconsistent pricing at any thrift stores
I’ve shopped at this Salvation Army before, and lately the pricing feels very inconsistent for a donation-based thrift store. Some basic clothing and regular brands seem priced surprisingly high, while some better-quality items are priced much lower.
I’ve also seen Target-brand items priced close to — or possibly higher than — what they would cost new at Target. I’m not saying people shouldn’t shop there. I’m saying it may be worth checking tags, comparing prices, and paying close attention before buying.
I’ve noticed that items with original retail tags attached sometimes seem to get priced high just because the original tag looks high, even though that doesn’t always reflect secondhand value. On half-price Wednesdays, a $40 item marked down to $20 may look like a deal, but that only works if the $40 price made sense in the first place.
I asked about the pricing and was told the items “come priced that way,” but I’ve seen situations where missing-tag items seemed to be priced differently depending on who was handling them.
Curious if anyone else has noticed this at that location or at other Salvation Army thrift stores in NYC.
