A less commonly talked about aspect of this disorder: Vitamin D deficiency.
Yes I do take vitamin D capsules but from what I heard it’s not the same as being outside in the sun. Whenever I get blood tests I constantly show up as deficient in vitamin D. My sleep time is 7 am - 4 pm.
So I always wake up right after the window where the sun is strongest and the UV rays interact with skin to create vitamin D. Add in the time it takes to get ready and eat “breakfast” and all that and I’m usually only out by 5-6 pm by when it’s too weak. Then the sun sets so early and I never have enough time to be out and see the things I want to see. I literally live in the darkness and I hate it.
I’ve tried so many alarms and I just keep hitting snooze because I’m exhausted. I’ve tried putting them across the room and the same thing. The worst curse aside having DSPD is that I also need like 10-11 hours of sleep to be able to function, even at 8 I’m exhausted. I’ve also tried going to sleep earlier and it just never works because I’m not tired earlier and because I wake up so late by the time I finish everything I need to do for the day it’s always around 6 am.
It’s been grey and rainy all winter and now that it’s finally sunny I’m stuck inside sleeping all day. How can I fix this? Does anyone else struggle with this side of things?
