John Torpey - RIP

John Torpey, founder of Torpey Hurleys has passed away Sunday at 85. The man himself mightn't be known that much nationwide but I thought it is quite impressive how he has built up the company into the size that it is now. It is possibly the most recognisable brand of a hurley throughout Ireland (through strong marketing and innovation too yes).

Started the company in 1981 and gone from strength to strength since

Just thought be nice to give him some recognition here

Tough to stop Shane O'Donnell

Taken today in Senior Championship. Éire Óg win 2-20 to 1-21 Vs Scariff.

They were made work hard for it though. A Scariff team without Mark Rodgers, who is injured through a broken hand. Éire Óg showed their county champions material

Split Season - Benefits for Clubs

Just reading here, this club came back up with a hurling team since 2018 in juvenile and have field this year for adult level since 1980s ish.

Mentioned that there are now 107 adult hurling teams across 9 tiers in Limerick. A record number. That is serious stuff

Same story in Clare, 96 adult teams across 9 tiers. 1 club with 5 teams, a small rural club even with 3 teams. Probably a record

Split season has been great for the club player and the benefits are starting to show now.
