Incredible day!! Couldn't be happier. Happy, but not surprised that the jury reached this verdict. Shout out to the Founding Fathers for designing this system. We honor that brave juror who refused to discriminate against the equally brave Mr Weinstein.
Feel free to (gently) critique my setup and ideas to improve. Just FYI, I don't have a ton of room to work around things here for a couple of reasons. I'm also not a handy guy, so I do what I can. It's a complete 5.1 setup for now, but I have a 9.2 receiver, so I have time to add on when I find a good deal. I'm just not in a hurry for now. V1 was just a receiver, some bookshelves, and a turntable.
This is the only wall my wife will accept putting this setup in the house. I also only have one outlet that I can use, so that also limits me to right here, although I may have my father in law help me put in another outlet. The Yeti center channel speaker stand and rear surround chair speaker stands are temporary, so pay no attention to that. I just set this whole thing up yesterday, so not quite 100% complete.
Not sure what to do with the sub, so I set it up in the corner. Not sure where else it would make sense. I thought about moving the table further to the wall, then placing the sub closer to the outside of the left front speaker, but that lack of an outlet is making it difficult for me to figure out how.
I also have this big pole right in the middle of everything, so that causes some problems. And the rear surround speakers I'm not sure about either. The set-up is mostly for me. I don't think I'm coming down here much with friends or anything, so basically it's me on the couch.
Anyway, here's what I'm working with. Everything bought from marketplace this year, except for the TV a few years ago.
TCL 65S41 TV - got it for Black Friday a few years ago because it was super cheap. Can't remember how much I paid. Basically, I'll wait until I upgrade my upstairs TV, then bring my 65" Sony A80J down here to replace it. Or I'll just buy some stupid huge TV that goes on a crazy sale. Whichever comes first.
Technics SL-BD20 - $100 - I got this thing along with a receiver to kick this whole thing off. I had been buying records for like 10+ years with nothing to play them on, we made some changes to our basement, and I thought I needed a spot to listen to music.
Paradigm Monitor 7 v2 tower speakers - $200 - I got these shortly after I bought my original Sony STR-DH190. Bookshelf speakers weren't enough, so I bought these and realized I needed more. That got me to my next steps.
Paradigm CC-350 center channel and mini monitor v1 speakers - $160 - Was iffy on if I really wanted to upgrade to a 5.1 more, but I got lucky and found these for what I feel like was a good deal, and about 5 blocks from where I work, so I had to fully commit after that.
Onkyo TX-NR7100 and SVS SB3000 - $950 - I was looking at the Onkyo TX-RZ30 and hoping it got down to $700, but it never got there and I bought these in a package deal, so not sure if I could have got the sub if I didn't buy it with the receiver. I'm thinking I'm going to try and flip the receiver and buy the RZ30 if and when it goes on sale. Also, wouldn't you know it, but the day after I bought the receiver and sub I see the receiver goes on sale for $490. Oh well. Again, I got a decent deal on the combo and I really needed a decent sub, so it's worth it.
All told, I'm in it for $1,410 at this point. Not too bad. Everything is working as planned. I want a bit more bass, but I'll figure that out once I get used to everything. I feel like I have done alright, but I'm curious to hear from some people.
Oh yea, also, I'm not getting rid of my Barbies.
I should first specify that I’m old and I’ve never used Chromecast and really don’t know what it does. I recently bought an av receiver with Chromecast built in, but have no idea how to use it. I have the google home app on my phone and wondering if it’s better to stream music through Chromecast rather than how I’ve done it in the past just connecting to Bluetooth and streaming through my phone. I thought I read that streaming through Chromecast is better quality than Bluetooth. Do I just play music from my phone, go into google home and cast from there?
