Reasonable AC Temp

✨UPDATE #2✨
After messaging our guest and apologizing for the discomfort and immediately explaining the AC temperature had been lowered to 70 and would be 68 overnight, the guest replied that they actually preferred it warmer at 73 during the day and 70 at night. The guest really appreciated my concern, and assured me that I was a great host. This goes to show that you really never know what people’s preferences are when it comes to air temperature. Thank you all again for your input.

✨UPDATE✨
Thank you to each of you for the honest and colorful responses. I see now that my husband and I are absolute weirdos when it comes to indoor temperature ideals. 🤭 We have home with many windows and a breeze is enough for us, unless interior temps climb to 85°F

I called my husband and asked him to immediately turn down the AC from 72°F to 70°F and then to 68°F around 9PM for ideal sleep for our present guests.

Some of you were concerned I was cruelly witholding control of the AC because of greed or meanness. That’s Ok. You don’t have an idea of how the home is constructed and it is a unique setup. The rental guest suite is its own private apartment with private entrance within a larger home. It has everything a guest would need except a way to control the thermostat. We’ll change that asap.

We plan to install a mini-split for our own comfort in the next few months, so the guests can have it be 68 all day if they want. I was never expecting to have so many unique guests. It’s been pretty wonderful sharing our home and I want to continue to get those 5 star reviews.

Thanks! ☺️

Just looking for opinions as what other hosts believe is a reasonable daytime
temperature in July in the US Midwest in a heat wave.

The guests do not have access to the AC control.

I have been keeping the house at 73° with 50% humidity during the day and dropping it to 70°F at night from 9PM to 9AM.

Two separate guests have politely complained and wanted the temperature at 68° or even as low as 65°.

My plan of action is to state in house rules that the home temperature is kept at 73°F with 50% humidity during the day and 70° at night. Then potential guests know whether this is an appropriate stay for them.

I have noticed that guests who are on the heavier side tend to require lower temperatures. This is unfortunate because my family members are all thin and get cold easily. It is a mismatch of needs I am trying to navigate respectfully.
